BANGOR, Maine — An Indian Island man was arrested Tuesday after police say he shoved his ex-girlfriend during a fight and took her car.
Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said the confrontation between Nickolas McGrane, 22, and the woman began with an argument over the couple’s children.
Edwards said McGrane shoved the woman and took her car. It was eventually recovered in the Orono area.
Bangor police Officer Richard Polk conducted several interviews with McGrane, and he was arrested and charged with Class A felony theft for stealing the vehicle, unauthorized use of property, and a probation violation.
Edwards would not specify what McGrane was on probation for. The woman was not injured, and no weapons were involved.
McGrane remained in the Penobscot County Jail on Wednesday.

I’m sorry I must have missed the part where it’s a problem to have children at 22?
There is nothing wrong with it. People having children when they’re 22 or younger has been happening for hundreds of years.
Partially due to the short lifespans in past centuries, but regardless.
There is no reason to vilify people having children when they’re 22.
Unless they’re irresponsible, violent, or stupid.
…
Not all 40 year olds are ready to have children either
….
You are definitely right about the responsibility that goes with a child. We had our first at age 19 and loved parenthood so had our 2nd child 2 years later. Both are grown now and we’re 40 years old. I have friends who are just starting having families and, although I know the odds were stacked against us having our children so young in life, our experience was seemingly easier than several of my friends who waited. Primarily because we never had those years of married life to get used to doing things our way. When we started out, it was he, I and a baby so that’s all we’ve ever known. However, I must say I look at kids 18 and 19 today and wonder HOW is it possible to have done what we did at that age??!?! But it does happen.
I had my THIRD child at 22! Two of them graduated high school with honors and went on to college and all 3 are successful, responsible, independent, mature adults!

Kudos to you Giah….you DO realize that you are the exception ? If you don’t mind a personal question though…Did your kids have a Father like that ?
No, they didn’t! Point taken!
I bet if George Washington was alive today and saw these mug shots in the paper he would sue us for calling him the Father of our Country.
I don’t think age has anything to do with it. My husband and I had our first at 19 and were perhaps more responsible parents than many I know who are far older. I’d say this has more to do with ignorance and stupidity than age
