BANGOR, Maine — The city will hold a public meeting next week for those living inside the area bordered by Main, Buck, Third and Union streets as part of its effort to develop a neighborhood revitalization strategy for the area.
People residing in the 4,000-by-1,500-foot area are being urged to attend the meeting scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Doughty School Auditorium at 143 Fifth St. — to voice their questions, concerns and ideas. Another meeting will be held Thursday, March 1, at the same location and the same time.
City officials are looking to redevelop and revitalize the area to deal with abandoned properties, subpar housing and unmaintained houses. They also want to capitalize further on improvements along the Bangor Waterfront as well as major additions such as the new arena, Hollywood Casino and concerts at the Waterfront Pavilion.

glad to see they are showing interest.. i complained once about my neighbor’s heroin needles being left around the shared entryway, was told there was nothing pd could do about, “it’s the neighborhood you moved into”
I would like to see that all interested persons know that ;
“Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 243,000 in January, and theunemployment rate decreased to 8.3 percent, the U.S. Bureau of LaborStatistics reported today. Job growth was widespread in the privatesector, with large employment gains in professional and businessservices, leisure and hospitality, and manufacturing. Governmentemployment changed little over the month.”http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm
So now is a bettah time to start planning than one might think,
from the headlines in this edition.
You can’t count on the unemployment due to they don’t count the ones that isn’t getting unemployment. They just count the ones that ran out of it and then they say they got a job.
Might I suggest bulldozing first and second streets?
I agree with you Bangorian, Isn’t it strange that where the drugs are they say nothing about. Hm on first street the landlords are slum lords reminds me of Hancock street back in the day.
I will say something Bangor PD needs to wakeup or our town will be like Portland. Portland is becoming a small Boston and Portland traffic is landing up in Bangor.
