BLUE HILL – Gilbert H. Hooper, 70, died Jan. 31, 2012, at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. He was born June 4, 1941, in Blue Hill, the son of Cecil and Norma (Gray) Hooper.

In his early years he cut wood and then joined his father in business as a licensed electrician. Later he became a commercial fisherman in both lobstering and scalloping. Most recently he worked for the town of Blue Hill. Gilbert was a member of Gov. Brooks Lodge, Brooksville, where he served as right scene supporter. He also attended Odd Fellows No. 79, Blue Hill. Gilbert enjoyed fishing, was an excellent skeet shooter and an avid hunter with his trusty 6.5 Swede in tow. Well known for his salty character, he was always up for a good yarn and not beyond the occasional prank. A loyal comrade through good times and bad, he will be sadly missed by family and friends.

He is survived by sons, Randy Hooper and wife, Andrea, of Hampden and Marvin Patten and wife, Kim, of Sedgwick; daughters, Cindy Hooper of Abilene, Texas, and Mona Young and husband, Kelvin, of Sedgwick; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Gerald; and sons, Barry Patten and Dale Patten.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Pine Grove Cemetery, Sedgwick. Contributions in Gilbert’s memory may be made to Gov. Brooks Lodge, 1657 Coastal Road, Brooksville, ME 04617 or IOOF No. 79, P.O. Box 716, Blue Hill, ME 04614. Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 141 South St., Blue Hill. Condolences may be expressed at
