PORTLAND, Maine — Maine Turnpike officials are trying to get more people to use the turnpike’s electronic toll collection system.
The Maine Turnpike Authority says it’s reducing the price of the E-ZPass windshield transponders from $25 to $10 to promote use of E-ZPass.
The transponders are mounted on windshields and activate antennas that are overhead at toll plazas to automatically deduct toll amounts from prepaid accounts or record transactions for those with commuter E-ZPasses.

I got one of these things as a gift two years ago. At the time I thought it was totally unnecessarily and a waste of time. I was wrong – these things are outstanding.
Gotta wonder if you routinely do things that are “totally unnecessarily and a waste of time.” I was going to suggest you need to get out more, but with that easy pass, I’m sure you already do. :)
One of the best investments that I have ever made.
You get a huge discount on in-state tolls as well, they should do a better job of advertising that.
Made a trip this summer to Michigan, then south to Indiana and then returned to Maine. All tolls involved in each state that I traveled through honered the EZ Pass.
Rolling through the NH 65mph toll just plain Rocks……!
EZ, Pee Zee……..If you travel at all contact them and order one.
Does that mean I get my extra $15 back?
How long did you get it? call and ask. If you got it more then a month then absolutly not.
I’ve had mine about 4 months and used it once so far..should’ve waited I guess……….
Feel free to credit my acount $15. Lol
will get my Maine one now….have been using nh one for years waiting till Me. caught up …. (great time saver and easy to keep track ) wish could order online
Less people to employ and pay retirement to….
Eddington – your current device should also work in NH — just check out the toll plan you have. You do not require two different devices, it should be compatible in any E-ZPass toll – you should be able to travel down through PA and back with the same device.
If you have an out of state ezpass, then you don’t get the discount at maine tolls.
Doesn’t matter where you got it, it still works on all highways. No need to get one in every state.
I actually got mine online
Big paulie says the state is broke, so lets give people a discount? WTF?
Not for nothing, but Maine charging $25 bucks for an EZ-Pass transponder is a ripoff! I bought mine over the counter at a Super Market in Rochester NY and activated it online the same day. It was $15 bucks and when activated it I had an immediate $15 dollar credit.
The shoud be giving them away, I got mine from NY on the internet ( 4 of them) for no more than the $25. account deposit.
Just think of the amount of $ collected before use $$$$$$ the state could use.
It would encourage the use of the turnpike.. also if the gas on the turnpike was at 0.05 cents per gallon less than the state average just think of the more gas would be purchases and the pike usage increase!!
I have my E Z Pass account thyough Mass Fastlane and there is no charge for transponders
ok….so where do you get one?…I’d atleast like to research it before i bother with it….we travel to Portland from Bangor about half a dozen times a year (about $5 in tolls each trip) Just wondering if it would be worth it..
Save a Job!
Go to the Tolls with PEOPLE in them!
Huh? Paying $ for a transponder that saves them money in tolls. NY/NJ never charged for these. You just needed to have minimum $25 in your account at any time.
What a great idea, makes a lot of sense to make it affordable up front. I bet lots more people will spring for it. Now that’s what we’re talking about. Keep those ideas coming. By the way, it is so great to just breeze right through those tolls. Ten bucks is short money for this.
