NEWPORT – Annette Batchelder, 73, went home to be with her family and friends in heaven Feb. 3, 2012. She was born Aug. 4, 1938, in Brewer. Annette was a lifelong resident of Newport and a foster daughter of Edna and the late Carl Chambers of Newport.

Annette held several jobs throughout the years in Florida and Maine. She was active with children, including Girl Scouts, cheer mother and Sunday school at High Street Congregational Church. She was a former vice president of Newport Senior Citizens. She was known as “Nutty” by many friends and had lived at the Newport Inn for the last several years where she enjoyed helping others. Her relationships with her close friends were very important to her. She will be loved and missed always.

In addition to her foster mother, Edna Chambers of Newport, she is survived by two sons and their wives, Jeffrey Nickerson Sr. and May of Palmyra and Richard Nickerson Sr. and Michele of Charleston; a daughter, Tammy Oldenburg and husband, Tracy, of Newport; 10 grandchildren, Jeffrey Jr., Rebekah, Andrew, Nicole, Richard Jr., Cody Rose, Brandon J., Ben, John and Brandon O.; three great-grandchildren; foster brother, Robert Chambers; foster sister, Barbara Lander; two sisters, Marguerite and Lillian; brother, George; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Holly Sue Nickerson; husband, Howard Nickerson Jr.; a son, Russ A. Batchelder; two sisters, Edna and Caroline; and two brothers, Richard and Ken Connor.

At her request, there will be no services at this time. Spring graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Newport.
