NEWPORT – Marie S. Towne, 81, died Feb. 3, 2012, at the Hospice House, Auburn. She had her loving family surrounding her along with the amazing staff at Hospice House. She was born Sept. 11, 1930, in Detroit, the eldest of two children of Algernon and Flora (Ashe) Sanborn.
Marie married Edwin Towne and started her family in 1948.
She was employed at Key Bank, Newport, for many years and enjoyed telling stories about working there. She attended People’s United Methodist Church, Newport, for more than 60 years and was a member of Detroit United Methodist Church. Marie enjoyed gardening and keeping her yard in immaculate condition. She also loved and cherished her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Terry and wife, Raelene (Smith) Towne, of Auburn; and two granddaughters, Patricia Towne of Kennesaw, Ga., and Kristina and husband, Matt DeFrain, of Marietta, Ga. She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin; and brother, Andrew Sanborn.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at People’s United Methodist Church, 131 Main St., Newport, with the Rev. Ellen Bridge officiating. Friends may call 10 a.m. until time of the service. Spring burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Newport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to People’s United Methodist Church, P.O.
