BREWER, Maine — A local woman who has served time behind bars for drug trafficking and drug possession called police at about 1:50 a.m. Wednesday to report armed “people in the woods with night vision goggles,” Brewer police Capt. Jason Moffitt said.
Police found no one and ended up arresting Tamara L. Laird, 32, who was wanted for unpaid fines associated with an unlawful possession of scheduled drugs conviction, the police captain said.
Laird truly believed that people were after her and told the three responding officers that “seven people with handguns and grenades” were in the woods, but “she was pointing to the other side of the house” while talking and asked the officers if they also saw the armed people, Moffitt said.
People on synthetic bath salts often get paranoid and think imaginary people are out to get them, Moffitt noted, but Laird told police she was not on drugs.
She was arrested on the outstanding warrant and taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor.
Laird was convicted in October for unlawful possession of a scheduled drug and was sentenced to four days in jail. In February 2007 she was sent to jail for 11 months for drug trafficking, according to Bangor Daily News archives.

Just kinda sad that the police have to take anything people report seriously. But by the sounds of it, I dont think shes hated enough for a “Tactical” team to stalk her in the woods.

This is sad. People with mental illness are easily ridiculed as I notice in some of these comments. Some people seem to have lost civility. My prayers are for this unfortunate woman and the uncivilized people.
