WAKEFIELD, Mass., and DOVER-FOXCROFT – Margaret “Peggy” B. Easton, 83, died Feb. 6, 2012, at a Wakefield, Mass. nursing home. She was born Dec. 30, 1928, in Waterbury, Conn., the daughter of Harold Page and Dorothy Agnes (Guise) Baldwin, and grew up in Naugatuck, Conn.

After graduating from high school, she attended Wellesley College, Cambridge, Mass., and received a bachelor’s degree in political science, later to be followed up with a master’s degree in education from the University of Maine, Orono. She then married, moved to Maine and raised a family. For many years she taught in the Guilford school system. She was active as a den mother of a local Cub Scout den in the 1960s, very involved in local politics, and sang with the choir of Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church. One of her many loves was that of the family camp, on an island located at Nicatous Lake in Burlington, which had been her safe haven while growing up, and for many years of her adult life. She became known as the “Island Girl” to many of the local summer residents of the lake. She had a great love and appreciation of music, which included John Denver and David Mallett. For the last 30 years she had been a resident of Somerville, Mass., and Wakefield, Mass., where she spent the final years of her life. She made friends with everyone she met and remained as active as she could in politics, her true passion. While in Somerville, Mass., she became friendly with the mayor of Somerville, Mass., and she was also active in the local Congregational church.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Harold P. Baldwin Jr. and Edwin Baldwin; and sister-in-law, Rene Baldwin. She is survived by two sisters, Jane Shumway of Dillsburg, Pa., and Mildred Leigh of Boulder, Colo.; sister-in-law, Betsy Baldwin of Burlington, N.C.; son, Peter Easton of Dover-Foxcroft; daughter, Pam Easton of Gardiner; grandson, William Easton of Dover-Foxcroft; several nieces and nephews.
