BREWER, Maine — A Levant man found himself behind bars Thursday after Brewer police were called to Walmart to look into a theft complaint.

According to an arrest report, Paul Mason, 31, was detained by a store loss prevention officer shortly before 1:30 p.m. after he allegedly tried to steal $22 worth of razor blades, Brewer police Lt. Chris Martin said Friday.

When Sgt. David Lord arrived, he determined that Mason was subject to bail and probation conditions, Martin said. Given that, Mason not only was charged with theft but also was arrested on charges of violation of bail conditions and probation violation, Martin said.

Thursday’s arrest was not Mason’s first brush with the law, according to court and police listings previously published in the Bangor Daily News.

In August 2009, Mason was one of two men that Maine Drug Enforcement Agency officers arrested in connection with a diverted prescription drug trafficking operation.

His criminal history also includes convictions for violation of bail conditions in 2011, possession of drug paraphernalia in 2009 and 2007, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in 2005 and paraphernalia possession in 2003.

As of Friday evening, Mason remained at Penobscot County Jail, a jail official confirmed.

  1. Sounds like Mr. Mason has had a problem following the law for the last 8 or 9 years…..maybe it’s time to put him some place where he can think about his choices for a while……Crazy……

  2. Seems like a real baddy, then he stole some razors at that! Big profit….(not making up for him!)

Guys like him are small fry irritants, and besides, why steal razors if whiskers are in vogue?   :-)

  3. Get real kick the guy out of the store . Waste 1000s of dollar to prosecute A guy for something he did not steal but tried to. Walmart Use to sell these little old ladies Rabbit ear antennas with 55db gain for $65  Ya that is as powerful as SETI By My calulations they should get stations for at least 20 light years away . Ok that when over most people heads . Maybe not to anyone in antenna engineering. The POINT IS THEY COMMIT FRAUD ALL THE TIME. Why are they not charge with fraud? Big Business constantly scams people to make a buck.

    1. So, is it a matter of what item is stolen and not the act of stealing? He should not go to jail because he stole razor blades that only cost $22.00? I would think stealing is stealingAnd he has some good old jail history to catch up on. Brother, you got to get over the big corporations sticking it to us common folk!

  4. Tried google to find a photo of the guy. Oops, there’s another guy named Paul Mason and he weighs 1,000 pounds.

  5. Bail conditions are a joke – they are never followed and nothing is done.  Criminals are laughing in the face of justice.

Maybe he needed a shave before going to jail.

  6. He needs more food stamps and some more money on his EBT card so he can buy more razors. What is wrong with you tax payers
