GOULDSBORO – Peter “One Pup” Dyer passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012. He was born March 26, 1933, at his family home in Gouldsboro, son of Mildred (Rice) Dyer and Alva L. Dyer.

He served in the U.S. Army and worked for the Maine Department of Transportation for 33 years. Pete could often be seen working in his yard raking leaves, mowing the lawn or shoveling snow. He also enjoyed daily rides to Gouldsboro Point, Chickenmill and the Guzzle Road. Peter shared many fond memories of rabbit hunting with his brother, Paul, and had a great love of bluegrass music. Peter lived his life with true grit and provided a wonderful framework for his family for which they will be at loss. He also took great pride in caring for West Bay Cemetery for a good number of years.

Peter was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Virginia (Torrey) Dyer, in 2009. Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Ricky Dyer of Gouldsboro, Owen Dyer and his partner, James Lacey, of York, and Dixie Dyer of Ogunquit; and three grandchildren, Meagan Smoyer and her husband, Rob, of Traverse City, Mich., Cameron Dyer of Tallahassee, Fla., and Lacey McMann and her husband, Justin, of Palmyra.

A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes, Milbridge.
