HOULTON, Maine — A Houlton man who was arrested almost three years ago after severely cutting a man at the home of his former girlfriend will serve 18 months in prison for his crimes.
Jeffrey A. Webb, who lived in nearby Ludlow at the time of the September 2009 incident, faced charges of aggravated assault, a felony, and criminal mischief, a misdemeanor. Aroostook County Assistant District Attorney Kurt Kafferlin said last week that the 34-year-old was sentenced to four years in prison with all but 12 months suspended on the aggravated assault charge, along with three years of probation. He also was given six months in jail on the criminal mischief charge.
The incident unfolded after the Houlton Police Department responded to a report of a fight on High Street in Houlton.
When officers arrived, they were told that Webb had forced his way into the home of his former girlfriend and began assaulting a 34-year-old man.
The male victim attempted to leave in his vehicle but was impeded when Webb rammed the rear of the vehicle, pushing it farther into the driveway, according to police.
Police said Webb sliced the rear tire of the man’s truck with a utility knife. The victim got out of his truck and another altercation ensued. Police said Webb then sliced the victim in the abdomen with the knife. The man suffered a cut several inches long along the left side of his abdomen. Approximately 3 inches of the laceration were deep enough to expose muscle tissue under the skin.
He was taken by ambulance to Houlton Regional Hospital and was treated and released.
Webb fled the scene before police arrived and was arrested at his home later that night.
Webb could have faced up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine on the felony charge and up to 364 days in jail and a $2,000 fine on the misdemeanor charge.

18 months? Really?
“Webb could have faced up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine on the felony charge and up to 364 days in jail and a $2,000 fine on the misdemeanor charge.”
Is 18 months a reasonable sentence?

Now these folks are non-violent offenders and they face a minimum of 10 years…

AMENDMENT [VIII.]Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.
The Eighth Amendment requires that every punishment imposed by the government be commensurate with the offense committed by the defendant. Punishments that are disproportionately harsh will be overturned on appeal. Examples of punishments that have been overturned for being unreasonable are two Georgia statutes that prescribed the death penalty for rape and Kidnapping (Coker v. Georgia, 433 U.S. 584, 97 S. Ct. 2861, 53 L. Ed. 2d 982 [1977]; Eberheart v. Georgia, 433 U.S. 917, 97 S. Ct. 2994, 53 L. Ed. 2d 1104 [1977]).
My guess is he used the ” I am unstable” quote.. If it is who I am thinking ( am almost 99.99 percent sure I am right) he has had a rough road to plow. He tried to commit suicide in the late 90’s over a girl. He did manage to shoot himself in the face and live through it. I would have hoped this would have given him a reason to live and change his life. But I guess not everyone takes the second chance at life and change. Very sad…
Everyone has the capacity to change, few have the will to change.
Seriously? This is meant to make a mockery of the judicial system
What’s new?
Sounds like attempted murder.
this is messed up!! i just recently moved to Bangor from Houlton when this happened to my best buddy! he deserves MORE TIME. yall shoulda seen the gash..it looked like some1 tried to GUT my friend! if i woulda known he was gonna get off that light, i woulda took the chance and done something myself as payback! :) hope he gets a cell with a big black guy named “BUBBA!”
Funny you should say that – a mutual friend was saying how your “buddy” was saying it was nothing and he himself said it looked like a little scratch! I think you are over dramatic and try to seek attention in any way you can – Too bad for such a sad life such as yourself. and if you are as good of a “friend” as you say you are then you would ALSO know what really happened and that MS. Lynds can’t even do her job correctly and write the correct events as they actually happened. – It’s nothing to you, a paycheck to her, but another person’s life.
A cut three inches long and deep enough to expose muscle tissue doesn’t sound like a scratch to me.
I believe Tony B. I happen to know who he is and he would not lie. Seems you have a little jealousy in your body Mainelymainer
Gee…I can’t figure out why in the world she dumped such a man…Of course I also can’t figure out why she decided to climb into bed with him in the first place either…
Now, now, now, you don’t know for sure they were having those kind of relations.
where you living nopark….in the 1800`s?
Well, these liberal posters are always going off at the hip aboput conservatives trying to control what goes on in the bedrooms……….
Why would you automatically assume “she dumped him”? That is also false. But, by the sound of it, you can’t figure out much anyways – you said it yourself. :)
he could have gotten 10 years but got 18 months….so he’ll be out in what ..9 months?? IF he used the “i’m not stable” plea, then before or after he serves his measly time he should be put somewhere to help him with his stability issues…i think most people who use that plea only use it as an excuse for their actions. woe is me..i had a rough life.., etc. etc. etc. and at the age of 34 he is a grown man (well, he is grown..not too sure about the man part) who should be aware of how to act as a human to another human.
Do you know for a fact that “plea” was used??… I DO and NO – it wasn’t Did it ever occur to anyone that he got what he got because teh details in the newspaper are FALSE??? I am sure it didn’t because you all way too simple minded… – You need to STOP making accusations and insinuations and – OH here’s an idea = maybe even mind your own business.
no, i did not know for a fact if he used or did not use a plea bargain….that is why i said IF…i maintain though that he needs help with stability issues because a stable person would not pull a knife on another person…IF there are issues he needs to get help…there is no shame in asking for help with a problem.
Sentences begin with a capital letter and end in only one period.
except for God, correspondence and reports at work, and emphasizing a word(s) (as in IF in my previous statements) i always type in small caps… as far as the muliple periods-GET OVER IT. none of it has anything to do with the article.
Who cares? Are you an English teacher.
Sounds like you are Webb’s new girlfriend. Poster’s are commenting on the contents of the story. If you have a problem with the story, take it up with the one who wrote it. It shows how simple you are by calling people names instead of strengthening your argument. Why don’t you write a counter story and reveal all the correct facts. There is always three sides to a story. Your side, my side, and the truth.
No, not a girlfriend, I just know what the CORRECT facts are and there isn’t many of them in this “story” I didn’t call anyone names, just stating that people’s comments are quite rude especially when they don’t have all the facts, and the writer of this article should learn how to do her job correctly instead of slandering someone based upon what what she has “heard” or thinks is true. and Yes, you are right – there are 3 sides to every story. I do agree with that!
Then enlighten us with the few facts instead of just saying we do not know them.
I find it very interesting that the author of this factually incorrect article is the cousin of said ex-girlfriend. This is a rehash of the first factually incorrect article that was written 2 1/2 years ago. She wasn’t even able to get how much jail time that was imposed correct. Now, I understand that sometimes people are lazy or just ignorant and take what the police say at the time to be correct without ever actually wanting to know the facts. But almost three years later and you still can’t seem to find the energy to look into the facts? I find that to be plain irresponsible. Shame on you Ms. Lynds. You give a bad name to journalists everywhere.
If the Newspaper would actually get the FACTS correct instead of just looking to write a “story” then I don’t you all would have too much to say. Just from reading an article of course you all speculate and form opinions, but this isn’t what the actual facts of the situation were! This is half the truth and half not – and that IS a FACT! It’s pretty sad that the newspaper has to make up stories to get people to buy it, when it isn’t the whole truth – and then others form bad opinions about a person based upon only what they read. Does any of you actually KNOW this person – or any of them for that matter? I know ALL 3 that were involved, and I honestly think if you did too and knew the WHOLE truth, that you wouldn’t be writing bad things about this man. Do you all believe everything you read? REALLY???
well then why don’t you enlighten us on the facts there professor? You obviously know everyone involved in this case. give us all a hint as to what really happened.
For starters, This comment is completely false:
When officers arrived, they were told that Webb had forced his way into
the home of his former girlfriend and began assaulting a 34-year-old
man.”
**He had that house, it was his and not hers. He let her live with him.
If this so-called “reporter/writer/journalist” can’t even get who lives where right, then you should know the rest of her article is also biased and untrue, her so-called facts are incorrect.
Sheesh, GO AWAY!!! You have posted five or six times and its obvious you are a pal of this guy! Go visit him in jail why don’t you instead of running down the victim, ex girlfriend, reporter, etc.!
I am just trying to get my point across that it is false and there is no need to post another “story” which is false, and which was false in the first place, but 3 years later and she still can’t get her facts straight…what is the point in that? I think it is unfair for everyone to form opinions based upon what you are reading here and then passing judgement about what you “think” to be true when it really is not. Also, and very importantly – the man does have a son, you know, does anyone ever think how this may effect the child?
This person is just waiting for Jeff to get out of jail.
UM YUP I know all three.. Close family friends with one for many many moons, one was a grade behind me and the other I do believe we graduated together.. Mr. Webb has had serious issues most of his life, that saddly have never been taken care of. And until he seeks the help he so truly needs his life will remain they way it is.. NOTHING! as with the victim of this stabbing, is a really great guy. His family is very reputable and have always been there for the kids and made sure they were doing right, and if not there were consequences. The other well.. only knew her threw school.
This should never of happened no matter the circumstances. And yes maybe the victim after being in his truck should have stayed there, but when tempers flair, we all have been there and know what can and could happen. However the only one with a weapon was who.. Yup you said it.
Still there is no reason a person should inflict harm on someone to this degree. And to run from the scene with his tail between his legs..umm shows how much of a coward he truly is…
Has it ever occurred to anyone that this could have possibly been an ACCIDENT??? You all are way too quick to pass judgement, makes me so sad!
I guess the question I have is what do YOU classify an accident as?
To me an accident doesn’t involve an altercation. Well just that would be an accident let me rephrase my words. But to ram the vehicle when one is trying to leave and avoid something is not an accident, nor getting out of your vehicle to slice the tire of the one you just rammed. To me this is well thought out in that narrow mind. Obviously it was going to start another fight. An accident doesn’t involve you throwing your hand out to slice someone either. :( It doesn’t matter to me if it was just a little scratch as you say or by the sounds of this article a huge laceration with a 3 inch deep cut. It was wrong and he meant serious injury when this as you say an accident occurred.
Do I agree with the charges and his time due. Kinda sorta. He needs to pay for what he has done, but he also needs to seek some help for his obviously anger issues. I pray for him to be able to learn from what he has done, and be able to come out a better person. Will he? I can only hope, but time will tell.
You are commenting as if in your post is what actually had happened, that is not the case, maybe bits and pieces of it did happen, but not like they are saying, and not like you posted either. I agree with you in some things you say, all I am trying to state is that what actually happened, and what people think happened are 2 different things. He didn’t run away…he didn’t leave thinking or knowing anyone was hurt – he would never have done that! and no matter what anyone thinks, he would never mean to harm anyone no matter who they are! Now, I am not saying he is perfect – as nobody is, and everyone makes mistakes, all I am trying to do is to make people realize that things are not as they were told and that this is a person that is very loving and caring and who has feelings too. I just really don’t want people to think he is a bad person or some monster based on what they “think” happened. I know for a fact that he didn’t go to his own house and try to hurt anyone on purpose and then just leave knowing someone was hurt!
I think it is easy to form opinions based on what you read if you have no other information (I probably even do it myself at times) nut I would like everyone to realize that MS. LYNDS didn’t do her job correctly and investigate or be bothered to find out what is the truth, she couldn’t even get the sentencing correct!!!! Now that is pathetic!! I do blame her for being too lazy and not bothering to state the correct facts (as she is the cousin of the ex-girlfriend, so of course she is biased to begin with. I also find that to be completely irresponsible of her, and Yes, I will be taking that up with her or boss. I don’t know why this is even news anymore, it may have been when it first happened 3 years ago, but why keep writing (or basically copying her 1st false article she wrote) about it now? Just because he was sentenced? Well, if that is the case maybe, MS. LYNDS, you should do your homework a bit better.
Doesn’t anyone feel bad for the 13 yr old boy who has to look in the newspaper and relive this over and over again, and possibly be teased or even harassed at school? I find it discusting that she cares so little about people by rehashing false facts.
