MONSON – Zelma Anita Stevens, 88, died Feb. 15, 2012, at a Dexter health care facility, with her family at her side. She was born Sept. 11, 1923, in Greenville, daughter of James and Isabelle (McEachern) Ryder.
She graduated from Greenville High School, class of 1942. Zelma was very active in local affairs. She was a member of United Church of Christ, Monson; a lifetime member of Susie Carr Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 181, Sangerville; Sunshine Club and Monson Historical Society.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles W. Stevens; a son, Robert F. Stevens; and a granddaughter, Heidi R. Nelson. She is survived by two sons, Kent R. Stevens and Charles A. Stevens and his wife, Gail, of Newport; a daughter, Julie Nelson and her husband, Dennis, of Corinna; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dagmar Greenleaf of Monson and Elena Mace of Connecticut; a brother, Bruce Ryder and his wife, Jay, of Connecticut; daughter-in-law, Susan Stevens of Monson; nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at Crosby & Neal, 21 Oak St., Guilford, with Pastor Stephen Dean officiating. Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of the service. A spring graveside service will be held 11 a.m. May 14 at Hillside Cemetery, Monson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Monson Historical Society, P.O. Box 173, Guilford, ME 04443.
