HOLDEN, Maine — In 21 years of law enforcement, nine of them with the Holden Police Department, Officer Chris Greeley has seen a lot, but nothing quite as amusing or unusual as what he saw at the side of the road Sunday afternoon.
“I’ve been a cop a long time,” Greeley said, “and I’m telling you, this is a first.”
Around 4:40 p.m., Greeley was on patrol in his cruiser when he came across a vehicle parked on the side of the road in an odd way and decided to stop and check on the occupants. As Greeley pulled up, he saw the three teenage occupants of the vehicle sticking their heads outside the car, vomiting simultaneously.
“At first, I figured I maybe had drunk people or something,” Greeley said. But that didn’t end up being the case.
When the teens recovered, they told Greeley they had just left a fast-food restaurant. Apparently, the meal didn’t agree with the front-seat passenger, who lost his lunch in the car. The driver and passenger followed suit, and the driver pulled over until their stomachs had settled again.
“It’s not so unusual to see one person throwing up on the side of the road as a cop,” Greeley said, “but to see three doing it in concert [is].”
Greeley left the scene after making sure the teens were OK so they could clean up.
No one was charged after the incident “and I wasn’t about to search the car,” Greeley said, still laughing when he called the Bangor Daily News minutes after leaving the scene.
“They were in good spirits, considering,” Greeley said. He did not say where they had eaten. (Nick McCrea, BDN)

What Fast Food Place?
Someone Said Mcdonalds but comment got removed so not sure why
??? I didnt see any mention of McD in the comment that was removed…unless there was another comment that isnt showing up as “guest” thats been flagged?
The comment that was removed was some nut yammering on about the kids being under the influence and a few other innapropriate claims against the officer.
It got removed completely it was there
Slow news day BDN? Seriously.
and the officer called BDN for what possible reason?
I suspect the BDN called dispatch and the officer returned the call
I was wondering the exact same thing. I you call the BDN, because as police officers you can’t post to FB or tweet about it?
I agree Samantha. After this big eventful episode, the officer had to call BDN? Great story Nick. This just makes BDN look stupid
You took the time to read the article. Then post a comment about it. I say anything that gets people to read and write is a good thing. I love good ole fashion intellectual intercourse.
I didnt feel a thing ! must have partial paralysis !
This story is ” SICK “
The real news here is where these kids had eaten that made them sick. You know, so we could avoid the place.
really-do a community service…
Sympathetic Barfers.
Genuine food poisoning takes hours to develop.
the cop never learned that
….
I did not know that. Is the shorter one bacterial?
…
While food poisoning may take a while, allergic reactions causing the body to expell the food out either end can take an extremely short time. I know of two people who have eaten certain things and ended up in the bathroom within minutes to get rid of the food…. It can happen, and I’m sure the smell made the other two follow suit…
Possible food poisoning, or undercooked food?
There’s a cat in the kettle at the Peking Moon
The place that I eat every day at noon.
They can feed you cat and you’ll never know
Once they wrap it up in dough, boy.
They fry it real crisp in dough.
smoke another one lol
Thank you, I shall.
I’ll join you!
the story should really be reporting WHICH fast food joint they had been at!
Well that was pretty much the main story that is missing here….who cares about 3 people tossing their cookies, I want to know which place started it…that’s where the real meat of this story is, otherwise it is just a water cooler discussion
Did you actually read the story or did your imagination get a different version?
Them little pukes got away with it!
shroooms anyone?
I dont think all 3 kids all got sick from the fast food they ate. It sounds like one teen got sick inside the car because his lunch didnt agree with him and the other 2 occupants immediately became nauseous from smelling/seeing the vomit from the 1st kid.
I hope this news story doesnt cause a panic with overly frantic people calling the health dept or the BPD demanding to know which FS chain the kids ate at…or worse accuse the kids of being under the influence and duping the cop. I mean, c’mon….ever been in an adolescent class room and have one kid puke and see the aftermath? Its like a domino affect of vomitous-discharge.
Usually teens out grow this but I still know many adults that hork at the sight of blood, dirty diapers, or another person heaving up lunch!
Either way…funny story~
That’s what I was thinking. It’s also possible the other two jumped to the conclusion it was food poisoning and panicked. I knew kids that would try to fake it just to get others going – the old sour milk scam you could call it.
One my last flight to Argentina we hit a very rough patch that lasted for awhile. A young girl across the aisle from me vomited. The stench made me want to vomit.
Thanks for sharing I guess.
Im with ya, i think we have over analyzed this crime !
I’d rather have people take the time to critically think things through rather than jump to conclusions, ie, food poisoning/drugs/alcohol…take your pick.
Common sense tells us this was nothing more than 1 kid puking and the other 2 puking from the site and smell of it. Of course its not as interesting as conspiracy theories aimed at fast food chains for poisoning society or 3 kids doped up.
Lol What do you expect for free?
those gas station cheeseburgers will get you every time
Hey Officer Chris Greeley….Ive known you a long time…you do a great job out there in Holden!!!…When are you running for office again..Ive got my vote ready!!!……good to see a humorous, harmless police story for once!!
listen for it on fri. nite police blotters on the Howie Carr Show on WVOM…funny
They must’ve eaten there at breakfast. Food poisoning doesn’t happen that fast.
I don’t blame the cop for not wanting to check their breath, but they got away with something…I know I used to. :-0
the way this is to be read, is that the food made the front passenger sick in the car, which made the driver gag and get sick to the stomach, then ( with the stench and gadding) made the 3rd passenger puke too, so the driver stopped till they all got done.
I don’t think where they ate made them sick. All the gagging and smell from the 1st one made their stomachs roll, as I think that would make me puke too, right after eating anywhere .. . YUCK! That’s how I’m reading at it.
Cause of this “Apparently, the meal didn’t agree with the front-seat passenger, who lost his lunch in the car. The driver and passenger followed suit, and the driver pulled over ..”
8 readers threw up after reading this………..
hahahaha
Didn’t think this was all that funny…
“No one was charged after the incident “and I wasn’t about to search the
car,” Greeley said, still laughing when he called the Bangor Daily News
minutes after leaving the scene.”
sounds like a classic case of shrooms to me…
Yeah – what restaurant?? Please warn the rest of us. I bet they didn’t think it was funny, especially if it was food poisoning.
This is news?
IT IS IN Bangor !
LOL
BDN will not print it and face losing advertising $$ from them.
“I’m gonna hurl.”
“No, dude, don’t hurl! ‘Cause if you hurl, I’m gonna spew. And if I blow chunks, then someone else is gonna honk – it could start a retroperistaltic chain reaction.”
Party on Wayne, Party on Garth !
The article states that they had just left the fast food restaurant so food poisoning really doesn’t come into play here because it take 2 to 6 hours before you even start feeling ill and who is to say it was the food that made them ill. There is a flu going thru alot of school right now. No need to condemn a restaurant. Also unless you have a very strong stomach I would probably be sick also if that happened in the same car I was riding in.
Surely if the problem was booze—they would have smelled it mingling in with the puke and hauled all three off to the pokie, regardless of the stench. Drugs? Possibly, but unlikely that it would happen with all 3 simultaneously.
When I get pulled over for speeding the police always call the Ellsworth American.
I wouldn’t search the car either.
The first time i drank one of those donut shop ‘coffee latte creme drink things’, within 10 minutes it cleared out everything in my intestines, down though my colon and out at the end. i kid you not. Home i went after that, and NEVER to drink one of those drinks again.
This is breaking news?
There’s some stuff called Odor Out, works pretty darn good, comes in powder and spray, smells like cherries.
Good ol” BDN, Always looking for something to fill up the headlines….and we are numb enough to read the stuff….
Sometimes, one needs a break from the domestic violence, politics, and sex crime stories we’re always seeing..
First an article about scooping doody and now a scoop about puking. Does someone at the BDN have a bukkake fetish?
Headline:
Punks Blow Chunks.
GOOD ONE !
funny story but …………classic example of cops feedin the media with filler to hide whats really goin on…..had this been something worth reporting they hide that stuff from us and disperse on a need to know basis…..like when they find a body ..they use radio silence and only use landlines ….ive seen em do it here
must be a REALLY SLOW day for news….
Try our newest sandwich. The “McPuke”
comes with special sauce !
RE read the story people… only one person got sick, the other 2 people got sick as a reaction to the first person throwing up, not all 3 people were sick from the food, it also doesn’t say the food was bad, it just says his stomach didn’t agree with it… C L O WN S
Hope all three kids are feeling better today.
I didn’t think this was especially funny! But maybe it was one of those things you had to be there for.
….
Just curious why do they always put this in news “No one was charged after the incident “ just sound very negative. seems like BDN is making the cop look like their are out there just to charge people with any infraction of life and charge charge…
why search the car he may have found drugs then he would have to of smelled it longer while doing an arrest and there was maybe no girl to bother there
More anti-teenager garbage… My subscription to this rag runs out next month…
I think the news is or should be the humorous as well as the serious and i applaud the officer for handling this tactfully, neither revealing the restuarant nor the teenagers names. In order to report a restuarant for food poisoning you need more than 3 people affected so withholding the name was the legal way to report this story . Having worked in the food industry for over 15 yrs I know the rules governing when and how and what to report.
They were , tossing their cookies, doing the techni-colored yawn, driving the porcelain bus, blowing chunks, ralphing lunch, there are so many better adjectives to explain that these kids pulled the wool over your eyes Chris !
My guess is Burger King
Cops and their buddies having a very public laugh at the expense of sick kids. How professional.
They were throwing up by the side of the road as a cop?
You can bet if it were a donut shop they all would be sick!
