FAIRFIELD, Maine — Maine’s Somerset County has been chosen for a national program that seeks to improve worker wellness, increase productivity and lower health care costs.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention picked seven counties nationwide for its National Healthy Worksite Program, which will provide free health coaching services for the next two years.
The Morning Sentinel reported that Somerset County was chosen in part because of its high rate of diabetes and heart and respiratory disease. Under the program, workers will get health screenings and advice from coaches about how to improve their health.
Fifteen sites in the county will be chosen by the end of April, with work beginning in May.
“Free” health coaching for 2 years! My first reaction was that it had to do with this current president’s mandates, and I read the full column this morning, stating that the money is coming from the 2009 stimulus pkg., so here we go again–nothing is ever free–the taxpayers are footing the bill once again.
