ALFRED, Maine — A mother, her husband and their son all were arrested Sunday after an officer spotted the mother passing her son drugs during a jail visit, police say.

Lisa Croteau, 45, of Arundel was visiting her son Joshua in York County Jail on Sunday when an officer saw her pass something to her son, who then tucked the item in his shirt, according to Maj. William King of the York County Sheriff’s Office.

A search of the younger Croteau turned up a marijuana cigarette, Suboxone and drug paraphernalia, according to King.

When police went to inform Marc Croteau, who was in the parking lot, that his wife had been arrested, they found a small amount of marijuana in his car.

Lisa and Joshua Croteau were charged with the Class C felony of trafficking in prison contraband, and Lisa Croteau was released later Sunday after posting $1,000 bail. Marc Croteau, 46, of Saco was charged with possession of a usable amount of marijuana and for violating conditions of release. Details on his earlier conviction weren’t immediately available.

Contact visits in jail are “a systemic problem in any custodial situation,” King told the Bangor Daily News. “That’s why we have monitoring of the visits.”

  3. They were just trying to keep the boy calm. They don’t want him to get upset and start talking too much.

  4. Well, the kid learned it from somewhere. Apparently Dad already had charges against him for something if he violated those conditions. That might be why he had Mom pass the dope. Maybe he and sonny can share a cell, catch up on old times.

  5. Dumb move Mom and Dad. Now junior will be in jail longer and so will Dad. Hope they can be roomies. They can have quality time they didn’t have when he was younger.

  6. Pot is a non crime.  It should be legal.   The state can butt out.  Mickey Dee’s does more harm than pot and it is legal.
