BANGOR, Maine — Someone called police Tuesday morning after seeing a man who appeared to be highly intoxicated get behind the wheel of his car with his young child in tow, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Wednesday.
Danny Hickman, 27, of Old Town was stopped on Stillwater Avenue around 11:30 a.m. and was given a field sobriety test.
Based on the results of the test, he was placed under arrest for operating under the influence, Edwards said.
Hickman was given an Intoxilyzer test and he had no alcohol in his blood system, the sergeant said.
Edwards said police brought in a drug recognition expert, who determined that Hickman was under the influence of drugs.
In addition to the OUI charge, Hickman was charged with operating with a suspended driver’s license and violating his probation. He also had two outstanding warrants for his arrest. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail and remained there Wednesday, Edwards said.
The 3-year-old child with him was picked up by the mother, the sergeant said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

What about endangering the welfare of a child?
And we often wonder how these 19 year olds pictured daily in the BDN ended up this way.It often starts way back. Hopefully this little girl has loved ones that will keep her safe.
Drugs and Old Town once again in the news.
seriously…..
No alcohol in his blood? So he failed a field sobriety test. Can you say your abcs backwards? What are they charging him with being under the influence or alcohol or drugs?
“Edwards said police brought in one of their drug recognition experts, who determined that Hickman was under the influence of drugs.” … I’d say OUI for drugs…
Drug recognition expert? Sounds like a cop went to an hour long workshop by another cop on how to get around our costitutional rights.
Got that right.
This guy, with a fair lawyer will not only walk, but walk with some Old Town taxpayer dollars.
Operating Under the Influence of What??, I guess that could mean any thing?
Not like Oldtown cop do not lie I hope they at least back it up with a drug test.
how bout the Big “L” for this guy everybody?
Child protection services should get involved before something happens to this child.
Oh yeah, that will help. The State is so much better at raising children than parents.
Look at the statistics regarding what happens to a MAJORITY of foster children after they turn 18
At this point I think chances are worth taking. Maybe the child will be ok or if the child stays with dad he can learn all about drugs before he starts school! I hate to see people choosing drugs or alcohol over their child… Grow up people!
Contraception is not an evil word.
This was not his child! Mom allowed her child to get in that car knowing the whole time he did not have a valid licence and where he was going! Hats off to the personwho reported it. Things happen for a reason. My heart goes out to all those who have a problem. PLEASE go get help, you have people who love you.
The mother should be charged with endangering the life of a child.
First and foremost I would hope that all of you that have commented think about this…What if this was my son or my brother? And as for DRUGS!!! They were ALL prescribed to him, he had NOTHING in his system he wasn’t supposed to. I understand what he did was wrong, he never should have taken his girlfriends daughter, not his, with him. But he is still loved by many people so please don’t be so harsh. It doesn’t only hurt him but his family as well. He has made mistakes in life, and none of you can say that you haven’t made any, and he will pay for his bad choices but if all he sees is hate and ridicule why would he try to change. If no one gives him a chance he will never stand one. No matter what, he is MY brother and I will always love him!
