SEARSPORT, Maine — A Waldo County deputy who pulled over a vehicle after noticing a defect wound up confiscating more that 22 ounces of marijuana and 5 grams of a powder believed to be the illegal drug ecstasy.

Deputy Arthur Smith of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office was conducting routine patrol operations about 8:15 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 18, on Route 1 in Searsport when he noticed a vehicle with a defect and initiated a traffic stop, according to a press release issued Wednesday.

“Smith made observations that led him to believe the vehicle contained drugs and/or drug paraphernalia” and decided to search the vehicle, the release said.

As a result, the deputy seized $3,300 in cash, the marijuana and the powder.

The driver, Stephen Loring, 25, of Searsport was arrested and charged with trafficking in schedule Z drugs (marijuana). Additional charges are likely pending further testing and

investigation, according to the release.

  1. If he has $3000. in cash, why doesn’t he get the vehicle defect fixed?   Or could it be the driver was a defect? Just asking!

    1. Just throw him in jail for a long long time and perhaps we wouldn’t have to waste our tax money on it after a while.

      1. So how long are you talking in jail for a non violent crime? And if hes in jail for a long time whos paying for his food,heat,ac,medical bills ect you thing hes going to be paying them?

  2. I’m so glad that out state and countrie’s big problems are all solved so we can now concentrate on the smaller ones.
