OXFORD, Maine — The Oxford Casino will hold a job fair Saturday, March 3, for applicants to fill more than 50 openings for table-game dealers, according to a release from the company.

Jack Sours, vice president and general manager of The Oxford Casino, called the job fair “the first of many.”

“While this first job fair focuses on dealers, we will soon begin to seek applications to fill hundreds of jobs with local talent,” Sours said. Dealers are being hired first to make time for casino-sponsored training.

According to the release, casino management will hold more job fairs in the coming weeks to hire staff for the restaurant, facilities, security and administration.

The casino is set to open this summer. The job fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 1591 Main St., next door to the Hannaford supermarket in Oxford.

  1. It is kind of a wash.

Mr. Paperback stores to close, Magazines Inc. to be sold, 120 to lose jobs
By Alex Barber on Feb. 24, 2012, at 7:08 p.m.
BANGOR, Maine — Mr. Paperback, a bookstore chain that has been a fixture in Maine for 50 years, will be closing and its sister company, Magazines Inc., will be bought out, an owner of the companies said Friday. Mr. Paperback’s 80 employees and Magazines Inc.’s 40 employees will be laid off …

          1. Dealers traditionally in casino’s across the United States do not take the jobs for the hourly wage but for “tips” which dwarf the amount they make hourly….dealers make between 40K to 100K depending on what gaming markets they work in.

          2. I believe that they are paid an hourly wage here in  Maine plus tips. Just like waiters, tax cab drivers  ect

          3. I called the dept. of labor an the person said that they can’t work just for tips  because they my not be a service employee. So they would half to be paid 7:50 an hr plus tips. He will call me back an let me know

          4. if you recieve a certian percentage of your income in “tips” you can be eligable for a tip credit under Maine law. If that is the case the “dealer” can be paid as little as 1/2 of the Maine min wage of 7.50 per hour and any amount over that.

          5. So no matter if it $3.75 or $7.50 per hour, my p[oint stands.
It is not productive work and does little for Maine economy.

          6. OK so what you are saying that any job is not a good job than im going to start making a list of jobs that people say are not good jobs an every so often i will post them on here . So lets see they make 7.50 an hr plus tips now those tips could add up to 3 bucks an hr plus say 7.50 an hr now that would be 10.50 an hr  i would say that’s  good money ?

          7. Use your own computer.
            We know you have one.

            Google basic economics/  community development.
Read anything that is not from Fox Network News. There is how, so now go fish for yourself.

          8. Right now ? Ahh, yeah, sure, whatever you say , boss. But I’m too busy.I’m going snipe hunting.Wanna come ? You can hold the bag.

          9. How many jobs can you think of that’s not productive work beside working dealing card an giving out money ?

    1. Not quite.  Mr. Paperback was predominately an eastern Maine employer; eastern Maine has the highest unemployment and the least potential for future job growth.  We are dying a slow death up here folks.  But maybe when our new basketball gymnasium is finished things will turn around.

  2. A New Casino less then 100 miles from Bangor, I like that, If the slots pay better I’ll do bus tours to their Casino from Downtown Bangor… How cool is that!!! Competition!!! eh!!! ah!!!!

  3. People need jobs, this is a start. 50 jobs, more to come. It will take a lot of people to run this casino.. It also said there is casino sponsored training, which is good for anyone willing to learn to deal cards at the tables. Maybe this casino will be a good thing for a lot of people.
