AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine State Police suspect some kind of crime connected to the disappearance of a Florida firefighter and they want to talk more with a Bangor man as the investigation intensifies.

Meanwhile, family and friends of Jerry Perdomo held out hope the 31-year-old Seminole County, Fla., firefighter will turn up. He has been missing since Feb. 16.

“We just want him to come home,” Tonya Perdomo, wife of the missing man, told The Associated Press from her home in Orange City, Fla.

In Maine, state Public Safety Department spokesman Stephen McCausland said investigators have spent two days gathering evidence at a house in the Waldo County town of Jackson that’s owned by the father of Daniel Porter, 24, of Bangor. Police believe the house is the last place Perdomo was seen. Evidence has been sent to the state police crime lab in Augusta.

Porter is “a person of interest” in the case, said the spokesman.

McCausland also said police interviewed Porter and Porter’s 25-year-old girlfriend, Cheyanne Nowak, after detectives found them in Connecticut during the past week. The two since have returned to Maine.

Investigators also have moved three vehicles involved in the case to the crime lab. They include a rental car Perdomo had been operating, which was found in the parking lot of the Bangor Walmart; a car that had been owned by Porter and was left behind at an Oakland dealership; and a new car bought by Porter and Nowak.

“The connection between Perdomo, Porter and Nowak, we’re still trying to piece together,” said McCausland. Perdomo made frequent trips to Maine, he said. A woman claiming to be Perdomo’s girlfriend has come forward to police, but McCausland did not have her name.

Police also confirmed they searched a trash container at the Hannaford supermarket in Bangor near Walmart.

Perdomo’s wife described the father of 3- and 10-year-old children as “a dedicated dad. He helps people out a lot.”

“He was always doing something for somebody,” said Tonya Perdomo. “He’s very sociable. He was in the service and knows a lot of people.”

Asked if it would be unusual for Perdomo to drive to Maine from Florida, his wife said, “He had friends from all over so it wouldn’t be unusual for him to go out of town.” Tonya Perdomo also thanked firefighters, neighbors and others who have been helping the family since her husband’s disappearance.

Chris Learch, Perdomo’s brother-in-law, was in Maine putting up posters with Perdomo’s picture in the Bangor area.

“We’re just going to keep doing it, going to keep on going until we find Jerry and bring him home,” Learch told WMTW-TV in Portland.

Perdomo’s wife, Tonya Perdomo, also held a press conference Monday in Florida in which she spoke about her husband’s disappearance.

  1. Bangor man wanted, now that does not make sense, how about releasing the name Bangor Pd.  IT seems you know

    1. Relax take a breath and read. Its in the article… “Police say Porter is a person of interest in the case and have interviewed him and Porter’s 25-year-old girlfriend, Cheyanne Nowak.”

  2. The best thing Ms. Nowak can do at this point is fess up to everything she knows and pin it all on Porter…

Hopefully the police have interviewed the couple’s friend “Lisa” as well…

  3. It says “The couple is believed to be the last people to have seen Perdomo.” but only Porter is named as a person of interest. That’s interesting.

  4. Mi corazón está con la familia Perdomo en este momento. My heart goes out to the Perdomo family at this time. May they find Jerry Perdomo alive and find out the real truth that exists. I just don’t understand why and how people can be so evil.

  5. I Ass sumed Porter was a person of Interest a few days ago, when they  had a BOLO out, I mean traded cars, left town, Dah  hello,   Items removed from his house he was watching,  Even BDN coulld figure that one out, A speeder get’s into more trouble than this guy, What to hell is wrong with the system?

    1. What the heck are you yapping about?  Big diffenece between getting a traffic ticket and having to build a case, find out facts, gather evidence, etc.  This isn’t Gitmo.

    2. I think the detectives have done good work so far. Without finding a body they still managed to get search warrants and collect evidence. There are lots of missing persons cases that never got anywhere. I mean they never had enough leads to say if foul play is suspected or name a person of interest.

  6. Again the BDN has to depend on an AP story to get the news. Hello, Hello does anybody work at the BDN anymore??

  7. Has the County Sheriff given Porter the heads up? Like in the Carlson Case.. Just asking.. I would like to know if in all cases they give criminals the heads up or is it just the special people who are told they are suspect???

  8. Look up Daniel Porter’s Facebook and scroll back through the wall posts. Veddddddy interestink!

  9. ” Asked if it would be unusual for Perdomo to drive to Maine from Florida,
his wife said, “He had friends from all over so it wouldn’t be unusual
for him to go out of town.””

–‘Bye huh!, i am going out the door, be back in a couple of weeks’

Stepping out the door to go from Florida to Maine and not saying where ya going is not like going to the local convenience store.  I wonder if he had a life insurance policy out on him.

    1. ” Asked if it would be unusual for Perdomo to drive to Maine from Florida, his wife said, “He had friends from all over so it wouldn’t be unusual for him to go out of town.”

      She didn’t answer the question.

  10. Any of you notice the house?  This house is at least worth  350 Thousand . Fire fighters don’t make this kind of money, unless there is drugs involved.  And her interview yesterday  she was stumbling  they asked her the first time if she was up here  and said no.. Then they asked her again didn’t you go to Maine and look for your husband?  Then   she said yes  then asked her what did you do up there in Maine  and again she stumbled was looking for the car  I thought it was off the road in a ditch.
Tonya  knows a lot more then what she is telling the press.   This story smells like drugs.
