LEWISTON, Maine — A Massachusetts man is in trouble in Maine after police say they found 20 pounds of marijuana in his pickup truck during a weekend traffic stop.

Mark Lyons of Braintree was held on $20,000 bail on a charge of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs after he was pulled over Sunday afternoon on Interstate 95 in Lewiston.

Police told the Sun Journal that police became suspicious when Lyons refused to drive past an officer during an unrelated traffic stop, despite being waved through.

Police followed him and observed him swerving between lanes.

Police smelled marijuana during the traffic stop and, after Lyons assented to a search, found the pot in the bed of the truck along with $2,000 cash in the cab.

    1. The Lewiston paper has more info and it appears that the guy was getting on the Turnpike when he encountered the police, so maybe he was actually exporting some Maine grown product to MA.

  1. Where are all the comments on how he should have been let off with a warning because it was all for personal use and will never get in the hands of kids?

  2. So glad this scumbag is off the streets!  Now I can sleep safely at night knowing this violent predator is not going to break into my house and murder my family like so many pot heads do.

  3. Legalize it and put it in controlled shops like liquor stores were at one point. Make it so you have to show ID and be over 21. Tax it like cigarettes and the state gets it’s share.

Very true, but that’s saying ” Well, it’s better than drinking.” My question is, why smoke or drink anything at all? Why do so many ‘need’ to consume intoxicants in the first place? Life is pretty awesome clean and sober too you know.

    1. I tried sobriety for ten years. I found out sobriety is way over rated. Now I’m trying to make up for lost time. But after fifteen or twenty beers I forget what I’m trying to make up for. Looks like I still have a long way to go.

  5. Just think,  20# at a minimum of 1500 a pound,  thats 30,000 bucks that will be spent here, in Maine.  As long as the guy in the truck doesn’t squeek.

  6. Maine-Open for business. If only those excessive government regulations wouldn’t keep getting in the way. How about a free trade agreement or something?

    1. if you dot want salts on your streets try some hemp, the man should be let go and sent home empty handed

      1. They should  just issue a ticket for trying to avoid the cops and give him back his property. This doesn’t even compare to “salts”.
