ORONO – Harry I. Brown Sr., 92, died Feb. 23, 2012, at Orono Commons after a brief illness. He was born July 4, 1919, in South Lincoln, son of William and Marion (Kimball) Brown.

Harry proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a lifelong woodcutter, who felt most at home when he was outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading and watching the Red Sox.

He will be missed by children, Harry Brown Jr. of Orono, Mary Brown of East Hartford, Conn., and Harriet Shorey of Lincoln; grandchildren, Barbara LaPlante and her husband, Paul, of Bradley, Heidi Wheaton of Lincoln, Douglas Brown of Waterville Angie Brown, Dennis Brown and Harry Brown III; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Catherine J. Brown, in 1998; infant daughter, Catherine Marion, in 1942; grandson, Robert Brown, in 1995; granddaughter, Jewelle Righenzi, in 2000; several brothers and sisters. The family thanks the staff of Orono Commons; Paul Cramm, home nurse from Gentiva; Janet Taylor, home care provider from Home Care of Maine; and the residents of Hasbrouck Court for their care and friendship.

At Harry’s request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral services. Burial will take place at a later date at Dodlin Road Cemetery, Enfield. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Orono Commons, Activities Department, 117 Bennoch Road, Orono, ME 04473.
