MILLINOCKET – E. Monroe “Shorty” Robinson, 94, passed away March 1, 2012, at a local health care facility. Shorty was born March 21, 1917, in Ashland, to Ellery S. and Jennie (Sholler) Robinson.
Shorty was an avid woodsman, and was noted many times for climbing Mount Katahdin, especially in the winter. He often was asked to be the guide for a club from Massachusetts, not only for hiking the mountain but also for canoe trips, etc. Shorty was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 58 for a number of years. He was a lifetime member of the Fin and Feather Club, Millinocket. He worked for Great Northern Paper as a carpenter retiring after 21 years. Shorty was still cross-country skiing well into his 80s.
Shorty is survived by sons, Larry and his wife, Pat, Hollis and wife, Wendy, Stanford and wife, Sharon, Maynard and wife, Lynn, and Alden and fiancee, Gisele LaVoice; daughter, Jennie Anne Frost and husband, Ken; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline Craig; brother, Glen and his wife, Jeannie; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Annie; half brother, Walter Patchell; brothers, Harold, Vernon and Chester; and sister, Lillian Craig.
Friends may greet the family 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where a memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. by Pastor Herschel Hafford.
