HOULTON – Louise Mae Kirner, 77, died Feb. 28, 2012, surrounded by her family at a Bangor hospital. She was born Oct. 12, 1934, in Houlton, the daughter of Della Glue and Thadeus Friel.
Louise attended local schools and was a member of Houlton High School, class of 1952. She became a certified nurse’s aide and proudly worked at Community Living Association for 31 years before retiring in 2009. She was devoted to her clients and made many special friends throughout her career, especially John. She was also a member of American Legion Post 147. Above all, Louise enjoyed spending time with her family as she cherished her daughter, granddaughters and great-grandson. She will be remembered for her kindness toward others, her giving spirit and her warm smile.
Louise is survived by her daughter, Debera Varney and her husband, Michael, of Houlton; two granddaughters, Amanda Varney of Houlton, and Michelle Varney Slike and her husband, Levi, of Presque Isle; great-grandson, Michael Fitzpatrick of Houlton; sister, Peggy Lynds Drost and her husband, James, of Houlton; brothers, Albert Friel and his wife, Connie, of Nickerson Lake, and Chester Friel of El Paso, Texas; sister-in-law, Betty Friel of Houlton; former husband, Carl Kirner of Tavares, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Elizabeth Troy, Doris Nickerson and Ada Grant; brothers, Chester Stearns, Maurice Friel, George Friel and Christopher Friel; and nephew, Butch Friel.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at Dunn Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at Saint Mary of the Visitation Church with the Rev. David Raymond, celebrant.
