JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Mary E. Caulkins, 87, died Feb. 5, 2012, at Palm Garden of Jacksonville. Mrs. Caulkins was born Feb. 9, 1924, in Houlton, the daughter of Ira J. and Hannah (Collins) Foster.

Mrs. Caulkins enjoyed crocheting and teaching others, sewing and making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for friends and family. She also enjoyed planting flowers in her yard. Mary was employed by Best Western Hotel for many years and she also helped her husband with his trucking company. She was a very strong and independent woman.

Mrs. Caulkins is survived by one sister, Leona Raasch of Williamsburg, Va.; nephew, Robert Fowler and his wife, Judith, of Columbia, Conn.; nephew, Allen Caulkins and his wife, Jeannie, of Newburgh; nephew, Ronnie Steele of Naples, Fla.; stepson, Robert Caulkins of West Virginia; several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband George; sisters, Kathleen Fowler, Fern Foster, Madeline Bagnall and Margaret Campbell; and niece, Brenda Carlson. Thank you to Palm Garden of Jacksonville (Fla.); Northeast Florida Community Hospice; and her neighbors, Olga Carver and Brenda Moore for providing loving care to Mrs. Caulkins.

Interment will be at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills, Jacksonville, Fla.
