BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Mary Elaine Reynolds Rich Simaitis, 79, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at HPH Hospice Care Center, Brooksville, Fla. She was born Aug. 8, 1932, in Unity, daughter of the late Merton N. and Edith W. (White) Reynolds.

Mary graduated from Unity High School, in 1950, as valedictorian of her senior class. She married Quinn C. Rich, Nov. 29, 1950, and they resided in Rockland for 36 years. Quinn passed away in 1990. In 1992 she married Anthony J. Simaitis and he passed away in 2003. Mary lived in Brooksville, Fla., for 23 years. During her time in Rockland she was a member of the Methodist church, Knox County Hospital Auxiliary, secretary of the Parent Teacher Association of Rockland public schools, and member of the Republican Party. She volunteered for the Cancer Society, Maine Heart Association, Red Cross and was a nurse’s aide at Knox County General Hospital. While in Brooksville, Fla., she was a member of the Republican Party of Hernando County. Mary worked in sales for Dunkin’ Donuts, Rockland, and was employed as a manager for Dexter Shoes, Rockport. She was an avid seamstress, and an excellent cook and baker. She made memorable holiday meals for her family. She also enjoyed crocheting, gardening, watching birds, watching football, flea markets and shopping. Mary had a generous heart, and took great care of her family members, grandchildren and neighbors. Her yearbook quote was “The world looks better from behind a smile.”

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Quinn C. Rich; her second husband, Anthony J. Simaitis; her sister, Eva C. Ames and her husband, Forrest Ames II; and a sister-in-law, Irene Reynolds. Mary will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Debra C. (Rich) Forsythe and her husband, Lynn, of Canton, Ohio, and Colleen E. (Rich) Bailey and her husband, Edward, of Kents Hill; her stepson, Peter Norton; stepdaughter, Debra West; her six grandchildren, Frank J. Bailey, Scott E. Bailey and his wife, Sarah, of South Portland, Matthew E. Bailey and Nicole Beaulieu of Canaan, Katrina Q. Bailey of Kents Hill, Amanda (Forsythe) Extine and her husband, Trevor, of Akron, Ohio, and Charles Q. Forsythe and his wife, Katie, of Illinois; four great-grandchildren, Kayla M. Bailey of Canaan, Madison E. Bailey of South Portland, Axton Forsythe of Illinois and Madison Extine of Akron, Ohio; her brothers, the Rev. Richard A. Reynolds and his wife, Teena, of Glenburn and Silas D. Reynolds of Freedom; her sister, Elsie L. Ladd and her husband, Richard, of Freedom; stepgrandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at Unity Centre for the Performing Arts, 42 Depot St., Unity, with the Rev. George Darling officiating. Burial will be held in the spring at Quaker Hill Cemetery, Unity. Family and friends are encouraged to wear pink in honor of breast cancer awareness. Contributions may be made to Susan G.
