OXFORD, Maine — About 500 people tuned out to apply for 50 blackjack-dealer jobs at western Maine’s Oxford Casino, which is due to open this summer.
Saturday’s job fair is expected to be followed by others for jobs at the casino’s restaurant, as well in security, facilities and administration.
The Sun Journal of Lewiston said the fair was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., but about 30 people arrived early. Applicants were given a math test as part of the application.
All selected applicants will also have to attend an eight-week dealer school sponsored by the casino and graduate from that.

Thats great to see a good turn out that dose show you that people do want to work . I wounder how far away people came to look for work ?
On the news last night they had someone from out of state came in looking for a job he has been out of work for 2+ years. He told the gentlemen from Black Bear he was very interested in this type of work for 15 years that the jobs were good paying. That he would take any training course that was necessary because he wanted off unemployment and welfare. That’s the type of folks who would like these jobs. Those people who are tired of collecting unemployment & unemployment with welfare because that does not pay the bills, mortgage and car payments.
very well said
will they have to pay for the training like they did in Bangor?
who is they ?
the job applicants…it was reported in the BDN that the applicants had to pay $200 for training, and they werent even guaranteed a job.
Yes was that for Hollywood casino ?
yes, here is the link to the article in BDN last December:
http://bangor-launch.newspackstaging.com/2011/12/17/business/200-applicants-try-their-luck-at-hollywood-slots-table-games-jobs-fair/
guess the casinos can’t afford to train prospective employees
Why should the casino in Bangor waste there time on people that can’t can pass an become dealers ? Than you find out who really wants to work
I agree why should they pay for these folks. If you get someone who doesn’t want to work and wants to just get freebies it is no use for these folks. If those who want the jobs bad enough pay the $200 bucks for the course. Those who pass the course will be the ones hired that simple. But this will be one way to see who really wants these jobs or just wants to sit home and have us pay for them.
That is for Hollywood casino not the one in Oxford
I do not belive the applicants will pay anything to go to the dealer school.
Total desperation in the state of LePage, 500 people for 50 jobs.
Does this not prove that people are looking for work?
yes it dose prove that people do want to work
People think that that’s all there is to do is deal cards it’s not. I would love to see you people get a job dealing cards an see how long you would last with no training . How many times would people stop the game an said you did something wrong an yes it is there right to stop the game an have the tape look at . You need math skills an a good personalty there too
