SURRY – Derrick Timothy “Bub” Robbins, 19, a lifetime resident of Hancock County, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, in Surry. Bub was born Jan. 16, 1993, in Blue Hill, to Richard E. Robbins and Marialana C. “Maria” Carter.
He spent most of his life growing up in Surry and, when coming of age, began his career as a lobster fisherman. In his free time, Bub enjoyed riding all-terrain vehicles, hunting, fishing, camping, cooking, building things and making people laugh. He would often enjoy these activities with friends and family. Bub had a knack for many things mechanical. At the age of 4, he built a motorized and operational Ferris wheel from a home kit. This enthusiasm carried on into adulthood as Bub continued building and repairing in various automotive and marine projects. He also developed his artistic mind through his talent of drawing accuracy. Bub also loved animals and is remembered by his family as a great son, brother and friend.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Richard and Elizabeth Robbins of Stockton; mother, Maria Carter of Brewer; sisters, Natasha Robbins of Surry and Amanda Robbins of Brewer; brothers, Travis Rhodes and Allen Kennard of Deer Isle; grandparents, Donald and Wanda Carter of Surry and Jeannette Robbins of Brewer; uncle, George Carter; aunts, Janet Jones, Holly Byrd, Dodie Sullivan, Lisa Carter, Marilyn Lawson and Juanita Carter-Egan; numerous cousins and friends. Bub was predeceased by his grandfather, Maurice Robbins.
A funeral service will begin 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at George Stevens Academy, Blue Hill. Remembrances may be donations to assist the family with expenses payable to Marialana Carter, care of The Derrick Robbins Memorial Fund, Maine Savings Credit Union, P.O. Box 347, Hampden, ME 04444.
