OLD TOWN, Maine — Police have arrested three suspects and are searching for a fourth after a 40-year-old Bangor man told police he was beaten, choked until he was unconscious and robbed of his money last week during a card game, Old Town police Sgt. Chris Hashey said late Sunday.
Two of the three men arrested for felony robbery — Corey Georgia, 20, and Matthew Jones, 22, both of Milford, and Dustin Mitchell, 22, of Old Town — had drugs in their possession when arrested, the sergeant said.
Police are looking for Garrytte Davis, 20, of Old Town, who is wanted in connection with the robbery, Capt. Kyle Smart said Monday.
Police believe it was a drug deal gone wrong but “that wasn’t his story,” Smart said of the victim.
The Bangor man told police he had been invited to Old Town to play poker with a group of people he had never met, the police captain said.
“He said when he went to pull his money out to buy chips, they robbed him,” Smart said. “[But] there was no indication of a card game when they went in to investigate.”
No poker chips or cards were found in the Lincoln Green apartment where the robbery occurred, the police captain said.
Police were called to the apartment for the report of a robbery at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28. Officers James Slauenwhite and Ryan Fitch “found the victim staggering down the road holding his throat,” Hashey said in a press release.
The victim told police he was seated and taking money out of his pocket when he was attacked.
“He was struck with brass knuckles and possibly a club before being choked out until he became unconscious,” Hashey said. “When he came to, he was missing a large amount of cash.”
Orono police, Maine State Police troopers, deputies from Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency converged on the scene to investigate and search for the people who assaulted the Bangor man. Search dogs also were used.
Mitchell, who had brass knuckles on him, was the first person arrested after the assault. He was taken into custody as he left the apartment building, which is located on the corner of Abbot and Lincoln streets, Smart said.
Georgia, who had brass knuckles and oxycodone on him, was arrested shortly after the robbery as he emerged from a wooded area near Old Town High School, police said.
Jones, who had the drug Ecstasy on him and was out on bail, was arrested at a local bar at about 10:20 p.m. Friday, March 2.
Police continue to search for Davis.
Georgia, Jones and Mitchell all were charged with felony robbery, which carries a penalty of up to 30 years in prison.
Georgia and Jones also were charged with felony unlawful possession of a scheduled drug, which could put them behind bars for up to five years if convicted.
In addition, Georgia and Mitchell both were charged with carrying a concealed weapon, and Jones was charged with violating his bail conditions.
All three were taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor, and Georgia and Jones remained there Monday morning, a jail official said.
Mitchell was released after 18 hours behind bars.
Those with information about the case may contact Officer James Slauenwhite at 827-3984.

What? No neck tattoo?
They had to get some money before going to the tattoo parlor
Rule # 357…..Never go to a card game with a pocket full of cash with people you have never met…..Crazy…..
There was no card game!
So the quote in the article that states “he was unconscious and robbed of his money last week during a card game” should just be ignored……thanks for the tip……
i think hes referring to these lines
““He said when he went to pull his money out to buy chips, they robbed
him,” Smart said. “[But] there was no indication of a card game when
they went in to investigate.”
No poker chips or cards were found in the Lincoln Green apartment where the robbery occurred, the police captain said.”
“Georgia, Jones and Mitchell were all charged with felony robbery, which carries a penalty of up to 30 years in prison.”
Hahahahaha! This is Maine…they’ll be lucky to get 6 months.
Well, I can tell you that 2 of these three are not in jail as this very bad reporting states. The Old Town Bully Department must love that their lies and false arrests make the news paper. I live near the apartments that the robbery took place and the “police” arrested many and only one was charged – a sort of “arrest now and ask questions later.”
Again, shame on the Bangor Daily News for very inaccurate reporting. Shame!
Maybe you should call Officer Slauenwhite at 827-3984 and let him know that at least two of the prisoners have escaped and are on the loose……
Most of the people posting here have not had to deal with the Old Town police. Heck, some of these posters are not even in Maine.
why do the police always get blamed when clearly they are low life and drug users…..get a job and get out of Old Town…..so much crime – it was not the way we or our parents were raised…..had enough about reading crap in my hometown…..police were doing their job….don’t like it don’t break the law and stay away from drugs…oh yeah and don’t assault someone …..
Larry, Curly and Moe are on the loose again.
Old Town in the news again.
looks to me like they are all doing the same drugs in these pictures.. does old town teach theft at high school assuming they went to school
brass knuckles????? hahaha they must have just watched The Outsiders
Give it ti a junior lawyer… these SCUMBAGS will be back on the street in no time…
Uncle dave must be proud
I used to be best friends with Matt Jones when I lived in Old Town for a stretch a few years ago. What is horribly sad is how many gifts he was possessed with and never did anything with it but get drugged up and laugh about it. I remember seeing him at 16 doing backflips on a snowboard like it was nothing and now this is him. So very sad. Although I will never make excuses for him I can say where the F are your parents? I remember him doing cocaine at 16 off my coffee table. In no way do I condone such behavior but being young at the time myself did not think about it too awful much. Anyway Matthew smarten up you talent wasting a-hole.
yeah i knew matt too. i remember back flips on a snowboard. i even remember him doing a double back flip out of a tree out back of McDonald’s into the river. he definitely had some talent with the flips. last i knew he was out of state at college. never saw him as the type to get into this stuff. he was into the drugs but i never saw him as the type to be violent and rob anyone or steal and he at least seemed to have the drugs under control enough to still work/go to school. oh well.
Yeah he always had sticky fingers but a violent person is something I would have not thought, I suppose that is the slippery slope of the drug game, you start out still working and going to school, you go deeper and deeper and then eventually you are kicking the ever lovin crap out of some dude you just met and then going out and drinking with the money you stole. I am so glad I moved out of that town and away from those so called “friends”. They were like a virus, it started out with just Matt coming over chillin out or whatever and then the next thing I knew the whole effing high school is at my house one right after another. Ugh there I go, screw Old Town.
Anyone want to invite me over to play poker? I just got my income tax check and I’m feeling lucky!
STUPID!
