BANGOR, Maine — The popular ’70s and ’80s band Styx is coming back to Bangor in July for an outdoor show, and they’re bringing along some high-profile friends.

Fellow Illinois-based band and ’80s supergroup REO Speedwagon is on tour with Styx along with Motor City Madman Ted Nugent, and they’re making Bangor’s Waterfront Pavilion one of their initial 30 concert stops with a Sunday, July 8 show.

Tickets to “The Midwest Rock ’N’ Roll Express” show will go on sale Friday at noon. Ticket prices are $71.50, $61.50 and $37.50, not including any applicable fees. They can be purchased online at www.waterfrontconcerts.com and through Ticketmaster, by phone at 800-745-3000, or in person at Mark’s Music in Brewer or at any Ticketmaster outlet.

Combined, the three popular rock acts have sold more than 80 million albums internationally and have 12 top-10 singles to their credit.

Styx has released 15 studio albums since its debut in 1972 and has eight top-10 singles, only one of which — “Babe” in 1979 — went all the way to No. 1 on the charts.

REO Speedwagon, which has been performing since 1967, peaked with the release of its “High Infidelity” album in 1980. The album contained four top-25 singles led by No. 1 hit “Keep On Loving You” and has sold more than 10 million copies. The band hit No. 1 again with “Can’t Fight This Feeling” from the 1984 album “Wheels are Turnin’.”

The 63-year-old Nugent has been rocking solo since 1975 and overall since 1967. His solo career has spawned 13 studio albums, three of them multiplatinum albums. His biggest hit single, “Cat Scratch Fever,” peaked at No. 30 in 1977 and propelled the same-titled album to triple-platinum status.

Through January 2008, a concert featuring REO Speedwagon, Styx and Survivor was ranked the fourth-highest attraction at the Bangor Auditorium since 1996 after drawing 4,073 fans to the Nov. 10, 2000 show.

Styx singer and guitarist Tommy Shaw tells fans in a press release that the Midwest Rock ’N’ Roll Express is going to be a “twang fest of screaming guitars and big, singalong choruses that continue to be the soundtrack for the misbehavior of our collective fan base. In other words, a real good time.”

The concert is the eighth announced for the 2012 Bangor Waterfront Concerts season.

  1. Nugent’s God, Guns, & Rock N Roll, 2000

“The war is coming to the streets of America and if you are not keeping and bearing and practicing with your arms then you will be helpless and you will be the victim of evil.”

“There are hundreds of millions of gun owners in this country, and not one of them will have an accident today. The only misuse of guns comes in environments where there are drugs, alcohol, bad parents, and undisciplined children. Period.”

Good Ole’ “Uncle Ted” ! Tellin’ the Truth and not backin’ down… one little Bit.

Maybe someone can “bribe” him to move to “Deer huntin’ Heaven” Maine and then we’ll have a *Worthy God Fearing American MAN* to be elected to the Senate when Ms. Snowe vacates to FLA.

Ya’ never know,,, stranger things have happened B4…. “Area 51″…. “Black Ops Seal Team 6″…
the “abomination…Obamanation” of America, right out of “The Twilight Zone”, scary…HUH !!!

Get ready to have your world turned upside down at the Bangor Waterfront Pavilion, “The Nuge” is comin’ to town.

God, Guns and Guts made America FREE, Lets Keep All Three !!!

    That’s what I’M talkin’ ’bout. !!! Peace & Love,,,,,, 357 FoReVeR !!! ;<)

    1. Yeah…cuz Ted Nugent…the same man who waxed poetically about “Cat Scratch Fever” says it then we MUST listen.

Funny how this crew thinks their god is all-powerful yet apparently think that packing a 9mm is the only way to protect themselves…oh right…god PROVIDED those guns. Well, don’t guns cost money??? How do poor people protect themselves? Or does god only love those able to afford firearms? What about criminals? Aren’t they armed? Does god love them? Even the poor ones?? Oh…that’s right…they’re armed by Satan!!! So does Satan love them because they’re poor or because they’re criminals? Or because they’re poor criminals??? So many questions, so little logic.

      1. “So many questions, so little logic.”
That was exactly my thought after reading your comment.

        1.  Uncledrinky drinks too much and confuses himself. (and others)
What’s amusing is when he gets into an argument with himself. LOL !

    2. The Nuge has better hunting in his home state (Michigan) .That’s why he keeps it as his home state even though he owns elsewhere , too.

    3. could not have said it better myself. Nugents musical talent is just a small part of his knowlege  of life and the world around us. Uncle Ted knows the truth and speaks it well and freely An awesome intellegent and talented man.

      1. “Nugents musical talent is just  small…..”   Fixed it for ya! Who’s this Oldgent guy you’re all frothing over?

    1. What is your plan for the homeless Regina?
By the time Obama is done 50% of the people in Maine will be homeless, as is his plan..
I’m sure most didn’t plan being homeless as their future…

    1. $71.50, $61.50 and $37.50.  $37.50 to see these three legendary bands perform? Part of celebrating your birthday would be that your alive. Live a little. :)

  2. Beach boys, Ted Nugent, REO speedwagon?   I used to think Bangor was about 50 years behind, but I’m beginning to wonder if I was being too generous.

    1. Bangorian, do you ever change out that stick planted firmly in your posterior or do you just keep the same one?
       Just wondering.

  3. I have seen REO Speedwagon and Styx recently and they can still bring people to their feet. Totally mixed  crowd from teens to seniors. Worth the ticket price. Ted Nugent lives forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. I agree.  Cat Scratch Fever is legendary……..if you love and appreciate music and have any knowledge of it, age doesn’t matter.  It’s the type you like that matters.  My son is in high school and loves Kansas, Rush, et cetera.  He’s a drummer for his high school band so he knows what to appreciate talent wise and what not to appreciate; they study it.  Hey, it’ll be awesome for those who have an open mind.  Thanks, Alex.

  4. Finally, something for the middle aged crowd.  Now I can go to at least one Waterfront Concert this summer.

    1. Common- never limit yourself to your age range for music. Music has no requirements. Just come enjoy the party. We have already partied with some major names at a prolific pace over the last several seasons. Music doesn’t care if you are middle-aged so come on down.

  5. I just saw REO Speedwagon at Silver Springs in Florida.  They still put on a great show

  6. Maybe the usual freeloaders and wagon riders that always seem to have the day off when their entitlements are threatened in Augusta will show up to protest The Nuge?

    1. Based on last season the noise haters should have hated Reba McEntire because her show was the loudest. No complaints. Personal preference played a role in a lot of that. Moving forward.

    1. Variety plays to all genres, new and classic. What has not played at Bangor Waterfront Pavilion yet? I have been to it all, WFC, KahBang, AFF. I’ve experienced 99.9 percent of the Pavilion shows over the years. WFC is about variety and variety is about WFC. Prolific with each announcement. Once put together, stand back and observe. Again, what has not played at Bangor Waterfront Pavilion? And WFC continues to excel in the concert experience. Come down soon!!!

  7. One I Pad, the cloud and anyone can see the concert from home live.. I’ll let anyone live stream off my I Pad for $10 each, with free commentary!!!

  8. Ted Nugent- I’m going!!! A man in a band with his head on his shoulders. I saw him back in 87. I hope he brings his bow and arrow!!!!

Man, where did I leave those parachuette pants?

I thought these guys were dead.

    1. Please wear your parachute pants to a Nugent concert, we need someone to laugh at! Maybe same decade but far from the same genre. Parachute pant speak to the fans of Prince, Wham!, Madonna, the dead pedophile, MC Hammer, etc. Certainly not hard rock!

  9. Will Ted Nugent praise his endorsement of Mitt Romney live in Bangor?
Imagine if anyone cared what a washed-up, redneck pedophile thinks about anything.

  10. Styx, REO, Nugent in the “Would be cool if it was still the 70’s” Tour.  Let’s get some more modern rock acts around here.

    1. Dude, I think you don’t understand variety. Variety means Country, Rock, Classic, Pop, Comedy, Metal, etc. This is how things have been on the waterfront these days. Modern can happen in any of those genres except classic right? Wrong. Even classic is modern if it is great bands like ZZtop, Lynard Skynard, Styx, Reo, even Bob Dylan. These are legendary performers. That is nice to have on the variety list don’t you think? So what makes it modern? They are still performing today. Move into any category and you will find new and classic have played or are scheduled to play Bangor Waterfront Pavilion. Popular current tours are what have come to Bangor courtesy of Waterfront Concerts. Great Work WFC. Tens of thousands are planning their dates right now.

  11. That is so cool that these dudes are still a rockin’ I saw them all in concert over 30 years ago!!! :) I just hope that the waterfront association also can bring some concerts for the younger generation, so I can take my daughter to one. I don’t think an 11 year old would get these dudes…but we are anxiously awaiting for some pop/rock artists from the last couple of years, then we will be buying some tickets. Enjoy them you senior headbangers!!

    1. Thousands of Styx, Reo Speedwagon fans are kids today. I know one 10 year old who is wearing a STYX t-shirt right now. I just tucked him in. Waterfront Concerts just announced Big Time Rush just incase however. This will be a huge concert inspired from their Nickelodeon Tv Show and also Big Time Movie that is out March 10th. Also, we are bringing the kid to Tran Siberian May 9th. This should also be an enjoyable experience for him. Sometimes with kids, you got to get them there first before they will have a good time.

      1. Yes.. I just heard about Big Time Rush…perfect for my 11 year old. She likes all types of music, but I just meant that for her the atmosphere of a “teenie bopper” concert may be better with songs SHE can sing along to that are relevant to her era. I have been there done that…when you have kids it’s all about them :) We plan on the May 9th one also…I am truly thankful that they are bringing concerts to the area…they are SO much fun. I lived in Portland in my younger years and saw hundreds of awesome bands…great memories.

  12. Everyone should keep an eye out for a herd of Great White Buffalo on the loose down near the Waterfront!

  13. the GREATEST MUSIC COMES FROM THE 70S AND 80S ! THEREFORE ASKETH AND BANGOR YOU WILL RECIEVITH ! LETS ROCK !

    1. UUUhhh,,? WHAT.?……the 60’s had a Few *little* known stars & bands….

Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys,  Jimi Hendrix Experience, Ray Charles…Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention,,The Grateful Dead,,Pink Floyd…need any MORE?!?!

      Then there’s always Woodstock…….. Remember  ?

If you do, Then you weren’t There.

  14. I saw Ted Nugent at the Iowa Jam back around 1980. He sweated on me. I was 10 feet from stage center.

The PA system failed at one point and only the amps on stage worked. When it happened, you saw thousands of people cup their ears because they thought their eardrums had just burst. Is was LOUD, and all of a sudden it wasn’t. Pretty funny stuff.

Too bad Ted grew up to be an uber redneck. He occasionally writes redneck opinion pieces in the Washington Times. And I’ve enjoyed roasting him because of it.

Still plays a mean guitar though. Go see him.

  15. Gee, I thought Bangor wasn’t going to get concerts like this until the new white elephant err convention center is complete.

    1. Bangor has become a entertainment destination. Nothing to worry about sir. 2013 Venues of Bangor Maine Area: In order of size: Bangor Waterfront Pavilion, Bangor Event Center, Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway, Alfond Arena, Collins Center, The Gracie, Penobscot Theatre. Call it supply and demand….

  16. If Mr. Nugent does the classy thing and just sticks to his music and commenting on that or how he might think the weather sucks in Maine, it will be a great show.  A reenactment of the Double Live Gonzo album(2nd album I ever owned) would be a treat.  If he’s going to spend an inordinate amount of time criticizing the worlds events, then it’ll be a waste of money.  I can read about political views in a magazine if I choose.  To pay any amount of ‘good money’ for music and have to listen through more than 5 minutes of political babble throughout is just too much.  The Capitol Steps are different.

  17. Good job Live Nation. Most of the Live Nation money heads out of state but nobody in this area was large enough to pull off these concerts. Live Nation set the bar, Global Spectrum will raise it once the Arena opens.

  18. I saw Ted do a hunting seminar at an archery shop in Stillwater, MN. All he talked about for 2 hours was bow hunting and the philosophy of hunting and big game and on and on. So then he opened it up for questions. The first question was, ” Ted, when are you releasing a new album?”  There was not one question about hunting or bows or guns, it was all about the music. He then took a guitar out and played a few tunes of his that were about hunting. Unamplified and solo. He sounds pedestrain without a band but it was still pretty good. I saw him live with a band called Alcatrazz, with a little known guitar player named Yngwie Malmsteen. My ears rang for a week.

  19. Great job Waterfront concerts.  Def Leppard 38 Special would be awesome additions to your lineup.

  20.  Maybe Ted Nugget can auction off  his draft dodging soiled underwear from the 60’s. That should be something the wing-nuts could proudly display on their walls, to reminisce about how they also dodged the draft. It could go something like this “yeah ole Ted went this route but me I had a pimple on my butt”. LMAO!

  21. Foo Fighters…..The only current Rock band with any relevance in the mainstream. Now that would be impressive!
