FORT KENT, Maine — A 17-year-old who lost control of his vehicle ended up causing significant damage to his own truck and to several new vehicles at a local car dealership early on Sunday morning.

Police Chief Kenneth Michaud said Monday that the accident happened just after 1 a.m. Michaud said Colby Martin was eastbound when he veered out of control on a curve while driving alone on Main Street in his 2005 GMC pickup.

He struck a light pole near Valley Auto, and debris from the top of the pole fell onto several new vehicles in the parking lot of the dealership.

Michaud said there was about $6,000 in damage to the cars and $12,000 damage to the teen’s truck.

There were no injuries.

The chief said no charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing.

  1. 17 year old out driving around at 1 AM ???? Unless he was returning home from a job, I don’t understand the need for a 17 year old out and about at that time of day.

    1. I agree, Holmes.  And as this kid was driving, under 29-A, any motor vehicle charges could proceed in criminal court, not juvenile court.  It’s time to post this kid’s name.  Who were his parents and why was this kid out at 1 am on a school night?  If he has a 504 plan, that would REALLY be icing on the cake…

      1. Let’s assume he has full coverage insurance and was doing nothing wrong until someone in law enforcement brings some charges. Were any of us ever with a young lady on a school night too late? When  Mom woke up – we got kicked to the curb. Wait for the facts. This kid could be the best or worst kid in that town.

      2.  Go to school on Sunday? The accident occurred early Sunday morning (1:00 am) not Monday morning.

  2. There is only two things to do in FT KENT this time of year Drink and Fornicate ! Dont you remember being 17 ?

  3. Two cars can be fixed, what if that pole had landed on BJs Tavern at around 10Pm. That would have made some people irritable.

  4. Odd to veer out of control on a in-town street if driving the speed limit.  Speeding was not listed as a factor.  Nor was alcohol.  Of course, they weren’t stated as not being factors, either.  Had this accident happened near Hogan Road in Bangor and one of Jack’s dealerships gotten victimized, I bet there would have been some in-depth reporting.  But, since it not in the part of Maine that counts, it doesn’t matter.

  5. Accident??? How about doing something else when he should have been paying attention to his driving!! I’d think to do $12, 000.00 damage to his truck, his speed was TOO FAST!

  6. those damaged vehicles can now be purchased at BUMPER TO BUMPER…..COME JOIN THE PAHTY!!!!!!!!!
