BANGOR, Maine — Police were called to the Goodwill thrift store on Stillwater Avenue on Monday afternoon to investigate a reported car burglary and ended up arresting a Millinocket man after he threatened a police officer, Bangor police Sgt. Larry Webber said.
Wayne Cote, 39, was with a woman who had a small child at around 2 p.m. when it was reported that they were breaking into cars.
“They rummaged through at least one car in the parking lot,” Webber said.
Bangor police Officer Steve Pelletier stopped the couple after they left the store, and Cote started “being belligerent — yelling and swearing,” the sergeant said.
He was given a disorderly conduct warning and told to calm down after he got out of the truck the woman was driving. Cote got back in the vehicle, but he got out and allegedly yelled again at police. “They gave him another disorderly conduct warning,” Webber said.
When Officer Jason Linkletter arrived, Cote reportedly threatened him by saying, “Wait till I meet you on a dirt road somewhere,” the police report states.
Sgt. Garry Higgins then arrived and was told about the threat, which Cote denied making. As police were discussing the matter, they saw Cote open the glove box, and “based on his history of pulling weapons,” he was arrested for terrorizing, Webber said.
Cote also was charged with violating his bail conditions. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail and later was released, the sergeant said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana House has approved a bill laying out when
people are justified in using force against police officers.
The House voted 74-24 Thursday in favor of the bill that’s a response
to the public uproar over a state Supreme Court ruling that residents
could not resist officers even during an illegal entry.
The measure specifies residents are protected by the state’s
self-defense law if they reasonably believe force is necessary to
protect themselves from unlawful actions by an officer.
Supporters said the proposal strengthens the rights of homeowners while
also making clear that anyone who is committing a crime isn’t justified
in using force against an officer.
“There are citizens of this state who understand … that they need to be protected,” said Rep. Jud McMillin, R-Brookville.
This is how I look at the cops, they’re a gang. They have a monopoly on being a gang. They kill people, they taser people, and they put people where they don’t want to be, all while charging you a small fortune. Want to learn how cops really are? Watch and listen when they think their alone. When someone screams ‘police brutality’ believe them….
