PORTLAND, Maine — Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine has something quite valuable that she’s willing to share with fellow Republicans seeking her empty seat: Her email list for voters.
Attorney General William Schneider, who’s exploring a Senate bid, asked to rent the Snowe campaign’s email list and reached terms of $150 per thousand names for one-time use.
Justin Brasell, Snowe’s campaign manager, says Snowe is interested in “helping good candidates get the necessary signatures to get on the ballot.” So far, Snowe has sent one email on behalf of Schneider, and another campaign has requested that she do the same thing.
Candidates must collect 2,000 by March 15 to quality for the June primary.
Snowe has said she might endorse a candidate but Brasell says there are no discussions at the moment.

I believe that Scott D”Amboise is the only true conservative candidate in this race–he is pro-life, pro-traditional family, pro-Maine and her people and pro-American.
“pro-traditional family ” ?
Please define that double speak.
It seemed like it it is different than pro-family, right ?
Disqusbites: “Pro-traditional family” is PC-R for “against gay marriage”.
It’s also PC-D for ” against gay marriage”.
So anyway you slice it, it is not pro-family, really than ?
Define “family”.
Define “family” ?
That is covered in preschool.
So, have you got one, Nopark ?
Is it like all others ?
So is yours wrong or is theirs ?
Which families are politically incorrect, Poor ?
I just want people to stop hiding their hateful politics behind stupid, inarticulate euphemisms.
What does being “pro-tradition family” really mean in this political context, that it can’t just be said plainly ?
Wow!
As angry as you are, I sure wouldn’t want you in my family!
No matter what your chosen gender is.
Oh dear, I so am sorry that the Koch Bros, have not organized my anger in a politically correct manner like yours.
Help me, please.
It’s also definitely not a political issue now is it !
Pro-American? As opposed to the anti-American candidates?
How does he feel about corporations being considered ‘people’???
Is a merger “pro-traditional marriage ” for the corporate person ?
Snowe has pretty low standards if she thinks Schneider is a good person.
How about the fact that she is renting public records!
No, she is not. The email list is the property of Snowe’s office, and the addresses are voluntarily given by those who sign up on the website. Read the privacy policy.
Why is she renting the list rather than giving it to them for free? Maybe, there is some legal reason that I am not familiar with, however, she can certainly afford to give the list for free. I believe that she falls under the old rules of Congress where she will be able to take her campaign funds with her when she leaves. George Mitchell used his to set up his scholarship program (an excellent program) which was very noteworthy.
She received my e-mail to keep me abreast of on-going and up-coming events and legislation.
I did not give her the right to sell my address. Why does she believe she can make money for the trust that was given to her. time to go back in time and send everything thru the postal service.
Did you read the policy before signing up to receive emails?
She’s no George Mitchell!
She is doing nothing improper in selling the list. Even if she gave it to other campaigns for free, the contribution would have to listed on their ethics filings, as an in-kind contribution. Regardless, she is within her rights to sell the list, to cover her staff costs.
OK guys…what am I missing here? Am I the only one who would tend to be a bit ticked off to have my email addy sold/given to another person/organization? Is that a common thing to do in politics? I cherish my privacy and I hate spam emails. Seems whenever I sign up for anything it requires an email address. I’m ok with that when I choose to do it because I know it will be sold countless times and the junk email will pour in. I have what I call a “junk email address” for such things. Very few get my “real” email address. Probably I’m making a big thing out of nothing. My daughter tells me that sometimes but what does she know? She’s only a shrink ;) Don’t even get me started on robo calls (I’m a shift worker.) And my phone number hasn’t changed in years. It’s 999-999-9999. Was asked last year to show my license when purchasing a new bed. Why?? I’m not going to drive it down the road. Ok, ok, rant over. I need coffee. It’s too early. Apologizes for hijacking thread. Ugh.
When you sign up on any website, read the privacy policy. Snowe’s is no different.
Olympia , please delete my e mail address from your list.
Well, she’s been living high off the citizens of Maine for years, usually not doing the right thing for her constituents. Why stop now? Pathetic, but at least now everyone really knows what she’s really like. Too late now though, unless you consider that anyone she endorses may not be the best choice for us.
She received my e-mail to keep me abreast of on-going and up-coming events and legislation.
I did not give her the right to sell my address. Why does she believe she can make money for the trust that was given to her. time to go back in time and send everything thru the postal service.
I’m sure the Postal Serive would agree since they are currently going broke thanks to email and the like….
another example of Saint Snowe Job doing exactly whatever she wants to do.
Surprised that she is willing to risk the LePage stench.
Anything for a buck! It’s the Republican way. Jock and Olympia made all their money because of the insider knowledge she gained from being on several important committees.
Now that Congress will be dealing with insider info and the benefits derived from that knowledge, Olympia’s well will be drying up. Time to retire I guess.
Makes you wonder what’s going on in the AG’s Office when Schneider is willing to directly represent a corrupt DA (Geoff Rushlau) during a misconduct / criminal investigation:
http://rushlau.blogspot.com/
“In a written statement issued August 5th, 2011, Attorney General William Schneider outlines a conflict of interest and insists that his office cannot prosecute Mr. Rushlau because his office in fact represents Mr. Rushlau.”
It’s stuff like this that only confirms that D’Amboise was right to
challenge Snowe in the first place. Like him or not, he exposed her for
the phony hack she is and now they will do anything to hold on to power
– their own favourite candidates, that is…
Although I may not agree with D’Amboise on some issues, the man ran for 2
years, his supporters are out getting his signatures and he did the
hard work to defeat Senator Snowe – the primary came early, that’s all.
It is obvious Snowe’s internal polling was really bad and so now she is
taking her toys and going home, hoping one of her “approved” candidates
will force D’Amboise to step down. If not Schnieder, then Summers, if
not Summers, then Poliquin, etc.
I say to all Mainers who are tired of this type of behaviour, win or
lose, support D’Amboise and send a real loud message to Charlie Webster
and the Maine GOP that they need to stop acting like keystone cops and
rally behind the one candidate who played by the rules and didn’t come
in at the last minute as a Carpetbagger.
If these 5 candidates wanted to be US Senator, then they should have
stepped up and entered the race in 2011 like any other primary
challenger. Again, the Maine GOP is proving itself to be a disgrace.
At least we know how she is going to put food on the table after she retires…
Its seems like a blatant violation of privacy and confidentiality. One certainly could expect better ethical treatment of these issues, but then you have to consider its O. Snow. Perpetrator.
Anybody who signs up on a website to receive emails should read the privacy policy before doing so. Signing up is voluntary.
I sent an email opposing her actions and she’s been sending me garbage emails ever since. Now she’s sold my email address to another politician?! Glad this Faux Republican is leaving office.
