AUGUSTA, Maine — A former Maine teacher has pleaded guilty to felony possession of sexually explicit materials and theft of a school laptop computer that had photos of nude children on it.

Christopher Brown of Monmouth was sentenced Wednesday in Kennebec County Superior Court to 30 days in jail on the theft charge.

A sentencing hearing on the other charge was postponed 12 months. Under a sentencing agreement, Brown can withdraw his guilty plea on the felony charge and instead plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge if he attends sex offender counseling and complies with other conditions.

The 55-year-old Brown taught at the Monmouth Middle School for more than a dozen years before his arrest last June.

The Kennebec Journal reported none of the photos were of local children.

What? If he attends counseling suddenly he is less guilty. What is wrong with our Justice system?
