BANGOR – Ethel E. Moyer, 95, wife of the late Harold A. Moyer, died March 7, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at a local hospital. She was born Dec. 14, 1916, in Reading, Pa., daughter of Claude and Minnie (Ketner) Steigerwalt.

Ethel was a graduate of Reading Senior High School, class of 1934, where she excelled in art. After graduation, Ethel went to work for Berkshire Knitting Mills, where she was a hosiery inspector and where she met her future husband. During World War II she worked for Army Ordnance.

When the job moved out of Reading, Pa., Ethel retired to take care of her family. After the death of her husband in 1973, she went to work for Boscov’s Department Store as a clerk, where she worked for more 20 years before retiring once again. She was a longtime member of Grace Alsace United Church of Christ, Reading, Pa. In May 2007 she moved to Maine to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Despite the distance she kept in contact with her friends in Pennsylvania after moving to Maine. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughter and husband, Pamela and Daryl Briggs of Brewer; two grandsons and their wives, Erik A. Briggs and Rena of Arlington, Mass., and Nathan P. Briggs and Molly of Hampden; and one great-granddaughter, Addison Marie Briggs. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Eugene Steigerwalt.

A service of remembrance will be private for the family with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, pastor and teacher of All Souls Congregational Church, officiating.
