EVERETT, Mass., and BREWER – Irene Clara (Burden) McDonald, 85, went home to be with the Lord March 10, 2012. She was born Oct. 11, 1926, in Everett, Mass., daughter of the late Clara (Snook) Burden and Hayward Burden.
She was the sister of the late Florence Johnson and Emma Dorothy Burden and Marion Burden; beloved wife of the late Leland A. McDonald; loving mother of David McDonald and his wife, Karin, of Brewer and Robert A. Patria, Esq., of Everett, Mass.; and devoted grandmother of Rebecca McDonald of Brewer, Emma Dorothy Patria and Ian Patria of North Andover, Mass., and Christopher Patria of Belmont, Mass.
Irene attended Everett High School. She was very active in First Baptist Church, Church Street, Everett, Mass., serving as assistant treasurer for many years and many other committees. She was a successful Avon lady for 22 years, winning many awards and making many friends in Everett, Mass., and surrounding communities. She worked many years for the Geophysics Research Division of the U.S. government and then for the Air Force Police at Hanscom Air Force Base, Bedford, Mass., where she met her future husband who was in the U.S. Air Force.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a funeral 10 a.m. Friday, March 16, at JF Ward Funeral Home, 772 Broadway, Everett, Mass. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 50 Church St., Everett, MA 02149.
