MONTVILLE, Maine — An Appleton man was arrested Monday morning and charged with burglary at a house where the elderly resident recently had died.

Patrick W. Turner, 48, apparently had been warned in the past to stay away from the residence on Peavey Town Road in Montville, according to Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

But the elderly man’s relatives, who have been working to clean out the home, apparently spotted him around 6 a.m. and called police.

Turner was attempting to get away, Trafton said, when his truck broke down.

“That’s how he got caught,” he said. “That’s why he couldn’t get away.”

Police believe Turner had broken into an outbuilding on the premises and taken things such as broken windows, scrap metal items, an old tank, an old metal bed frame and metal piping.

The relative who called police recognized the items.

Turner was charged with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer as well as burglary. He was taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast, where he remained in police custody late Monday afternoon.

  1. Unreal, over junk that would have been just thrown away anyways. he was just helping ya. LOL

  2. Regardless of the potential value of the items stolen, this man violated the property of a family during a time which is already difficult.   This activity can best be described as despicable and bottom of the barrel and at worst in a manner I can not post on this board.   He deserves to have his picture accompany this article although I sense he probably would not have the ability to feel the shame which should result from that.
