HOULTON, Maine — Two Hancock County men accused of robbing a bank in Island Falls last Tuesday made an initial appearance to answer to the charges in Aroostook County Superior Court on Monday.
Aroostook County Assistant District Attorney Kurt Kafferlin said bail was set at $50,000 surety or $10,000 cash with numerous conditions for each suspect — Joseph Fallica, 21, of Trenton and Clinton Michaud, 22, of Ellsworth. Kafferlin said the bail conditions include that the two men not have any contact with each other and that they have a court-appointed custodian supervise them 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They also can’t return to the bank they are accused of robbing, Katahdin Trust Co. in Island Falls.
As of about noon Monday, both men remained incarcerated at Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.
Both men were arrested at about 5 p.m. Friday, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland. McCausland said impressions taken of tire tracks left behind by the getaway vehicle, which was parked between two nearby potato houses, led a team of state police detectives and troopers to the suspects.
He said the tracks were connected to a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee belonging to Michaud’s girlfriend, who was not charged in connection with the robbery.
According to McCausland, state police believe that Fallica went into the bank and robbed it and that Michaud, a former resident of Island Falls, drove the Jeep the pair used to leave the crime scene.
The bank robbery occurred shortly before noon Tuesday, March 6, when a lone man dressed from head to toe in black demanded money and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash in a blue bag that he had brought with him.
Troopers said no weapon was shown and only two bank tellers were in the building at the time.

great job bdn, you fixed the names
Apparently couldn’t keep their mouths shut. Dumb idiots
@hey1:disqus That’s what I’ve been saying since the day this crime occurred- they’ll run their mouths, and that’ll be what gets ’em caught. On Clinton’s FB wall, he’s been using some choice words to describe the town of Island Falls and its citizens, and continuing to run his mouth. The only noteworthy post back to him said “If you’re guilty, you need to take responsibility. If you’re innocent, we will support you 100%”.
Everyone else has been patting him on the head – there, there, you’re bigger than these small-minded people. Give me a break! The small-minded ones are those not giving any thought that these two MIGHT actually be guilty, especially when his aunt specifically said that Clinton has overcome “these obstacles” before. The funniest post I saw was when Clinton said that he left this town 3 years ago. Big wow – you made it as far as Ellsworth. Hate to break it to you pal, but unless you’re hauling in Alaskan king crab in the Bering Sea, your career as a deckhand on a boat in Ellsworth isn’t going to make you rich any time soon. And are you implying that we’re supposed to think you’re not capable of returning to visit family or make mischief, just because you left 3 years ago?? Fine, if you hate this town and the people so bad, then do us a favor and STAY AWAY.
The most ridiculous post said that the suspects also have families, and we need to be considerate of that. Really… If their families are so full of upright, hard-working, outstanding citizens & role models, then why are these two sitting in jail, charged with a federal offense, with bails set that are relatively high for this area, and which include some pretty strict conditions? I have to wonder the following: (1) either no one cared enough about their direction in life when they were impressionable youths, OR (2) they learned to be little a-holes at a very young age, and every excuse has been made for their bad behavior – just like they are now – and we should all understand, because they are really nice guys, who just made a mistake… OK, let me explain something to you – Putting bleach into a load of laundry that should not be bleached is a mistake. Robbing a bank is NOT a mistake. It’s a premeditated federal offense.
I thought it was nice of that same person to apologized, but it’s not enough. Where is Clinton’s apology? He’s a big boy, and you shouldn’t have to apologize for his behavior. And if you’re going to be naive about this situation, then go ahead and keep perpetuating the dysfunction. But please, for one moment, consider this: no one ever knows everything that’s in another person’s head or heart, what they’re capable of doing, especially when they’re desperate, and regardless how much or how long you think you know the person.
Anyway, my consideration and concern are focused on the bank tellers. You have no idea, the effect this crime had on two beautiful ladies, their families, and the surrounding towns. It’s bad enough that some of our own have made jokes about the situation; so asking us to be considerate of their families is something that I personally cannot do.
P.S. @dkenzie:disqus – who gives a crap about “fixing their names”? Is it fair to say that the gravity of this situation has not occurred to you? (SIGH) I’m just going to leave it at that. No point in beating MY head against a brick wall, when it is perfectly clear who needs it.
So im ss for mentioning the names were wrong, i am svs that this crime had effect on those ladies, its sucks, has happen to me before
My apologies – what does ss and svs stand for? Sorry to hear you’ve dealt with a similar situation. Were you working or were you a customer at the time?
so sorry and so very sorry and i was working at that time, in a store, i currently own a business now so i am sketchy with people all the time
well i myself believe that my brother clint did do what hes been accused of he deserves to be punished but i also beileve that non of you guys should be slamming him thinking that you are all better than him and my family…dont get me wrong im not saying what he did is right but everyone makes mistakes….you are intitled to your own opinion..but thats about it….and dnt make comments about his personl life…you dnt know him or my family so dnt act like you do…
Wow, sounds like you have issues as well. First of all, BDN has the bail amount wrong. Clint’s bail was set at $3000 cash or $50,000 surety. While I do not condone their behavior, nor do they deserve to get off scott free, you should really keep your comments to yourself regarding family and the up-bringing of these individuals. It seems to me you have a grudge against Clint for whatever reason that may be. As far as what is said on HIS Facebook page, there is the “unfriend” button and you are more than welcome to use it. If you’re not his friend, than this subject shouldn’t have been brought up in the first place. The fact of the matter is that these boys did commit the crime, and they do deserve the punishment. As for everyone else other than the people that are directly involved, they need to keep their opinions and thoughts to themselves. In regard to Clint’s apology, the detective himself stated that “if it meant anything, he was very remorseful.” Once again, I’m not supporting their actions I just feel it is no one else’s business other than the people involved. In closing, I would like to know what gives you the right to say he hasn’t made a life for himself in Ellsworth. Whether he has or not, it isn’t any of your business. Please tell me what astonishing career choice you have made that has allowed you the time to sit on your computer and catch up on the Island Falls news, but I digress. On that note, get your stories straight before you judge anyone regardless of their situation. kthanksbye. ;)
Right. Clint is sorry that he got caught. It’s about time. No sympathy.
Keep thoughts and opinions to ourselves?
This IS the comment section after all, and since you gave yours, then so can melmac111107. I grew up the next town over, and he/she might not be too far off with that comment.
Yes, this IS the comments section however, this is meant for comments about the news article written. This isn’t a spot for you to run your mouth about a subject in which you know nothing about. Furthermore, this is certainly not the place to blatantly disrespect or judge Clint’s family. Congrats to you for growing up in the next town over, as irrelevant as that comment was, this still doesn’t give anyone a reason to disrespect his family. This article is over the crime the boys committed. I believe that before you post a comment at the top it states “keep it civil and stay on topic” therefore, leave his family alone and discuss the article. YES THEY DID IT, they DESERVE the PUNISHMENT and WILL get one. While you are worried about supporting prisoners who are serving time for their punishments, hand out more of your pay check for those who are car pooling to the meth clinic everyday. To stay on topic, I’ll end with this..if you have ANYTHING to say about Clint’s family please feel free to say it to their face and not hiding behind a fake username. All I’m saying is that these boys are going to serve their time. They deserve everything they are going to get, but there is no need for people to sign on and attack their up-bringing. Their family doesn’t deserve that. As you’re sitting their in your perfect life, basking in your glorious fortune, with I’m sure absolutely no skeletons in your closet, please fill me in on what else Clint’s family could have done differently.
Apparently he hasn’t made a life if he had to rob a bank. Anybody in this state has the right to say anything-because it will be us supporting their @ss in prison. Low life scum. Can’t support themselves and their habits so take the easy way out and try to steal the money of those who work for it. Pure SCUM-plain and simple. Spend $50 in gas to drive to Island Falls to land themselves in jail. Numb!
Can’t speak directly about all of the family members involved, but I do know that there are hard-working, outstanding role models involved.
Thank you
Please, for one moment, consider this: no one ever knows everything that’s in another person’s head or heart, what they’re capable of doing, especially when they’re desperate, and regardless how much or how long you think you know the person.
This is so true, even of people raised in loving, caring homes. Two children raised in the exact same circumstances can grow up and take completely opposite paths, through no fault of their families.

People are entitled to their opinions but please keep the focus on the crime and the person’s responsible.
Melmac111107 seems like you have an issue with Clinton’s Family? I know the family quite well and no one is condoning the situation. They are in shock. It effected many people in different ways and the whole situation is just terrible. Lashing out at particular family members because they are trying to be kind and neutral and express their concern is just unacceptable. You are entitled to your opinion and comments but when your getting personal about certain people it crosses the line of good judgement and cooth. Be angry with Clint and Joseph for their choices and leave Clint’s family out of it, they are not responsible for his choices. By pinpointing particular family members in this situation just proves your small minded and really does not represent the town of Island Falls very well. Also, how is lashing out at a particular family supporting the ladies involved as well? Its not. It just creates more stress in the situation. There were two people charged with this crime, not one kid and his family.
could we give some credit where it is deserved. The Boreder Patrol agents who actually tracked the suspects down we not even mentioned in this story. Why is that? From what I know state police never even stepped off the pavement.
were you there? did you witness it?…i doubt it so dnt say things that you dnt know just because you hear things…this was a messed up comment…and what does this comment have to do with what clint did…exactly it doesnt..so stick to the topic!!
I was there.
Are you kidding me? Really? Clint does NOT beat his girlfriend.
Thin walls. He likes to choke.
really bro dont know you but if you want to talk smack about him wait till hes out and face to face or better yet tell me who u really are instead of being a wuss and hiding behind a computer screen cuz were big boys and i doubt you know me come on im not a wuss my name is out there:)
He lives in a one family house. That shoots your thin wall theory out the window.
I speak as someone who has been robbed at gun point, not once but three times. As a victim of a violent crime I express my concern for the victims. They deserve to have justice served. That being said, attacking the families of two adults who made adult decisions without consulting family, is unfair. Perfectly wonderful people raise and love people who do terrible things. It does not mean the perpetrators were not raised with love and discipline, just that for some reason known only to them, they made decisions that hurt a lot of people including the victims and their own families. Unless and until you have been in these situations pleased do not judge the families. These men will be judged and punished and all of the families will feel the pain, maybe more than the men themselves. Please keep in mind…treat others as you would like to be treated if you were in the same situation.
