HAMPDEN – Donna Eloise Fransen, 70, passed away peacefully March 12, 2012, at a Bangor health care facility. Donna was born Sept. 18, 1941, in Winchester, Mass., to Robert W. and Eloise A. (Quigley) Shannon.

Donna grew up in Massachusetts where she was a 1959 graduate of Reading High School. She then graduated from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School as well as the University of Maine. Donna worked for more than 25 years at the Bangor Daily News as the director of Newspapers in Education and Literacy Services. She enjoyed reading, shopping and finding a great bargain, but most of all enjoyed trips to Boston and the theater. She was a holder of season tickets to the Penobscot Theater for many years, and enjoyed traveling to see many shows alike. Donna will be remembered as a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Donna is survived by her mother, Eloise Shannon of Reading, Mass.; her loving husband of 47 years, Roy Fransen; son, Erik Fransen and wife, Robyn, all of Hampden; daughter, Trina Fransen and significant other, Kevin Hayes, both of Portland; grandchildren, Isabelle Fransen and Caleb Moody; sister-in-law, Nancy Gallant and her husband, Leonard, of Chester, N.H.; and a special friend, Ann Calderwood. Donna was predeceased by her father, Robert W. Shannon; and an infant sister, Paula Shannon.

Family and friends are invited to visit 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, March 15, with the Rev. Dick Woehr officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden.
