LINCOLN – Floyd F. Burrill, 83, husband of the late June (Freeman) Burrill, died March 12, 2012, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born at Half Township Road, Lincoln, the ninth child of 14 to Stephen P. and Bernice E. (Fogg) Burrill.

He attended schools in Lincoln, Brownville and Atkinson. He was graduated from Higgins Classical Institute, class of 1949, received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maine, in 1957, and was graduated Diplomat D’Etudes Francaises from l’Universite de Toulouse et Bordeau at Pau, France, in 1959. He received his Master of Education degree from the University of Maine, in 1972. In his youth he worked in the family farming and lumbering operations. He participated in one of the last river log drives at St. Froid Lake. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany and France. While in college he worked as enumerator for the agriculture departments in Maine and California. He also worked as dairy herd inspector in Tillamook, Ore. He served two years in South Vietnam with International Voluntary Services, the forerunner of the Peace Corps, as agricultural technical advisor. On returning to the U.S., he taught high school subjects in Hartland, Pittsburg, N.H., and Yarmouth. After retiring from teaching he worked for the state of Maine Animal Welfare in southern Maine. He was a member of Yarmouth First Baptist Church. He held membership in Casco Lodge No. 36 AF & AM, Horeb Lodge No. 93 AF & AM, Cumberland – Mount Vernon No. 1 RAM and Mosaic No. 74 RAM, Portland Council No. 4 R & SM and Portland – St. Alban No. 2 Commandery and Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Bangor and Portland Valleys.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by 10 siblings, Albert, Byron, Vincent, Dale, Calvin, David, Prince, Beulah Burridge, Pearl Owens and Vera Burrill. He is survived by sister, Evelyn D. Shurtleff of Medford, Ore.; brother, Walter J. Burrill of Exeter; sister, Adria V. Wight of Lakewood, Ohio; and brother, Carlton D. Burrill of Portland, Ore.

A Masonic funeral service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, during the visitation which will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Darrell Joiner officiating.
