LAMOINE, Maine — The investigation continued Tuesday into a weekend shooting in Lamoine that killed one man and injured three others.
The scene of the shooting remained cordoned off with police tape Tuesday afternoon as a team of state police investigators worked inside and outside the small wooden house in the coastal Hancock County town.
State police spokesman Stephen McCausland said detectives continue to attempt to reconstruct the sequence of events but added that he did not expect any new information to be released Tuesday.
There have been no arrests or charges filed.
Lawrence “Randy” Sinclair, 32, of Ellsworth died on Sunday at a Bangor hospital as a result of a gunshot wound to the head. Three other men were also shot and wounded during the incident: Torrey Garland, 34, of Ellsworth; Joshua McKinney, 25, of Ellsworth; and Michael Carter, 30, of Lamoine.
Garland had been listed in critical condition at Eastern Maine Medical Center on Monday evening. McCausland said Tuesday there had been no change in the status of the victims.
The incident happened at around 4:30 a.m. when four people — Garland, McKinney, Sinclair and his brother, Jacob Sinclair — drove to Carter’s house in Lamoine in two cars. Jacob Sinclair, who was not injured in the shooting, has indicated that the group was there to resolve some sort of dispute.
Police have yet to state why they believe the men were at the house but State Police Lt. Chris Coleman said Monday that investigators were taking a look at Jacob Sinclair’s statements on his Facebook page and at others. Police have recovered one gun from the property on Route 184 but have not said whether any other firearms were involved.
“We have not drawn any conclusions in and around the shooting,” Coleman said Monday during a press conference. “Our goal is to get to the bottom of who shot who.”
Victim or aggressor?
No matter which one he is, he has a mother who is praying like hell that her son doesn’t die. We all need to remember that he’s a human being, who is fighting for his life. At this specific moment in time, it doesn’t matter what he has (or hasn’t) done.
Its just public record that one Sinclair was a career criminal and that the other is on his way to becoming one. And of course dealing heroin in the community is something we shouldnt hold against Garland at all.
And the public record of Carter is no different!! A lot of people are passing judgement on a dead man…you all should be ashamed of yourself! He was someones son, brother and friend!
Yes, and Im sure they all have nice things to say about him. However he had trouble fitting in to civilized society. And please tell me, did Carter(who is no gem of a person either) go to Sinclairs with three other men to create trouble or was it that other way around. Why should I be ashamed? I have never beat women, beat strangers in rest rooms, stolen, thieved from my family, done things to detriment my family business nor was I ever in Federal Prison. Ive never terrorized people that my brother had personal relationships with either.

Lets see. Sinclair has the beef and yet somehow Garland is the first one on the steps of Carters house. Being so close to Garland, Carter only manages to shot him in the waist area. Now in all this Sinclair is no where near the steps or house but Carter manages to correct his poor shooting at blank range and shoot Sinclair in the head. Thats pretty good considering Carter had come out of a lighted house and was staring into the dark. Then somehow Carter gets shot himself but then has the ability to shot MckKinney who is crawling around trying to get a peaceful running loose pitbull that doesnt belong to him.
So yes, Sinclair was obviously murdered according to the facebook scenario that Jake Sinclair has

Or we can go with the other theory that all four men are on the porch, jump Carter and are beating him when the girlfriend comes out with the gun and starts shooting randomly and wounds her own boyfriend in the melee.
Im sure the State Police will get it straight. They have lots of experience in police investigations involving this group of people.

It does matter. His mother is distraught along with the Sinclair family because these guys have lived a life of taking, stealing, fighting and dealing. People who know them, have been victimized by them and are now criticizing them are not to blame.If they all loved and protected their families as much as their facebook fans say, they would have assumed the responsibility of adulthood a decade go and not been living as 30+ year old hoodlums. In the long run, when all the details come in, his role WILL matter. I never said that it never will. I’m just saying that right this VERY SECOND, it doesn’t. Right now, he is a man who has been shot, and is fighting for his life. No matter what he may (or may not) have done, he is somebody’s son, brother, cousin, friend, etc., and they are all hoping and praying that he survives.
If it turns out that he was the aggressor, and he survives, he will be brought to justice for what he did. That is when what truly happened in Lamoine Sunday morning will matter. It doesn’t right this very second, while he is fighting for his life.

Sinclair had some time in Federal Prison to think about living a different life. He had Supervised Release time on Federal Paper and could have done things to make a better, more productive life for himself. But he didnt. His latest disturbance, before this one, was beating up a man in a public restaurants bathroom and stealing 750 dollars from him. Of course that wasnt a random act. That was another one of Sinclairs meet and greet sessions.

McKinney, after seeing Garland and Randy shot was apparently so worried about the pitbull that didnt belong to him that he then went to rescue it and got shot himself. This is after Carter himself was shot. This is all the truthful tale of events as posted by Jake Sinclair on Facebook.

Secondly, if someone is in your home or on your property and they attempt to harm you…Maine law allows the use of deadly force (after giving a verbal warning and you can’t shoot them if they’re leaving). Yes, apparently Carter should try out for that Marksmanship program on the History Channel. He was able to come out of a lit home, and stare into the dark and shoot three targets running away. Of course what makes very little sense is that Garland was closest to Carter, according to Jake Sinclairs FB report) and yet Carter can only manage to hit him in the lower waist and yet somehow Sinclair is no where near the steps(again according to Jake Sinclair) and Carter scores a head shot there. And then he somehow manages to get shot in his own leg does Carter. But he recovers enough to shoot a crawling around on the ground in the dark McKinney who is looking for Jake Sinclairs peaceful pitbull that only came along for a ride.
It appears only that Jake Sinclair ran away. Of course that cant be true because we all know that he is loyal and has the back of his family and friends and would never have to go with three other guys to someones house and beat them up as a group.
And this all happened, according to Jake, becuase Carter called Randy to a meeting. Only somehow Randy brought three other guys. And the text that Randy sent to Carter didnt mention anything at all about home invasions, beatings or rapes of Carters girlfriend.

I am alarmed. I met Mr Sinclair only once and found him to be very polite and professional when he gave me an estimate on building a new home in the area. I thought him highly regarded from the references I called. His sons are adults and responsible for their own behavior.
It is my understanding that the elder Mr Sinclair is fine, it is the offspring. Be careful in builders too. If you go to Maine Professional Licensing, you can find some there and you ccan also find our for yourself if they have been sued or any problems. Yes his sons are responsible for themselves but I wouldn’t trust any of them. Depending on what area you are in, you can find a reputable builder.
People are confused as there are three men with the same name. The eldest Sinclair, Lawrence Sinclair is deceased. His son Lawrence Jr. owns Sinclair builders and is the father of the man shot to death who is Lawrence as well.They both go by the name Randy.
I know him and yes, he is a very nice man. The Mexican man I mean. I know his wife and was present when the crew came into her work at China Hill and started running their mouths to her and such. The whole story is really tragic….one family lost a son….drugs or not, it was a human life. drugs are taking over this world everywhere, you cant escape them…..Maine DEA has been sweeping Ellsworth great lately……I have an assumed drug house in my neighborhood, and I am doing my best to get them out, there not going to take a nice affluent hospital area and trash it….My thoughts and prayers to all families involved…….

A similar case happened in portland years back. A “dispute” over something. 3 guys show up at midnight and the homeowner feeling quite threatened shot and killed all of them. As I recall shot one in the back. He was aquiited all charges. Based on what I’m reading these people are tatooed pit bull loving thugs who if gone from the face of the earth make life a bit easier and safer for decent people trying to lead an honest decent life.

Beating people up was common practice with this group of four when they were in high school. Seems as though they hadnt changed a bit and now it takes a lost life for the reality to set in. early morning hours are never a good time to settle a dispute. My thoughts and prayers are with all parties involved and I hope god helps you during this awful tragedy.

You have quite unrealistic expectations, probably based on TV shows that do not reflect the time it takes to methodically and accurately investigate a crime of this magnitude. I suspect that the State Police have a very good idea of what happened that night, but they do not say because 1) they have not yet been able to talk to all the persons involved (one still in critical condition, remember?) and 2) they do not want to compromise the investigation in any way by releasing any information. Patience, please.

That is one of the rudest things I’ve ever heard! Who would say something like that? That’s just heartless and cold. These people may not be innocent of things they have done in their past but that certainly doesn’t mean anyone deserved to die in this situation.

I am not judging anyone here, this is just a question on my mind. I have read so much about all the other family members gone wrong in the Sinclair family Do the boys have parents? Both seem to have taken such a wrong path in life. I was just wondering about the guidance they have had in life by their parents. So very, very tragic and horrific situation for all involved. We can only raise our children to the best of our ability. As they grow up you hope all you have instilled in them will help them to make good choices as they become adults. So sorry for all in this situation.
It’s so sickening to read some of this. It’s appaling that the BDN is even letting half of this stay on here. People, get over it. Yes, some of the Sinclair’s have made mistakes. I am part of the Sinclair family and I have a clean record along with my siblings and parents. It hurts to hear some of you write so much garbage about my cousin Randy (not JUST my cousin but my aunts, uncles, cousins, grandfather (who is deceased), that we all loved. Nobody has said he is perfect and nobody knows the real truth about what happened that night. Until we do, find something else to do. It’s so hurtful for all you to make such quick judgements. Why can’t you let us mourn the death of our cousin?
If I was mourning, I wouldn’t be worrying about what people were posting. My sympathies on your loss.
Most people are appalled that you refer to robbery, beatings, breaking and entering, stealing, drugs and homicides committed by members of your family as “mistakes”. Protesting, “Nobody has said he is perfect” is a false argument. His behavior, his lifestyle, his crimes and his bad decisions led him to this end and your family to their anguish.
It’s unrealistic to expect victims and community members who have suffered from your family members’ “mistakes” for decades, to join the grieving line for Randy.
I am sorry that you and your family are going through this but I an unable to muster any sorrow for your cousin.
In in one statement jake says everyone was shot in the driveway in another he says Torrey made it up one or two steps. He is already contridicting himself
He said they were sitting in the car but when the guy came towards them, they ran away. I would have driven away. There are other contradictions too, sounds quite selfserving. First, I don’t believe they were invited. This is why we have courts to settle this stuff. This bully stuff has to stop, they were up to no good going theree at that time of morning. We are supposed to feel bad for them? I hope they all get time for home invasion and whatever else they can charge them with. A man is dead because of this craziness and they are just as guilty.
The funny thing is that Jake Sinclair doesnt have the common sense to not post things about this event on facebook! But then again, a burnt out lightbulb glows brighter than he does.
The posts are gone now, just one about his brother’s funeral. That was a CYA but I suspect the SP will see right through it, it wasn’t the smartest thing to do. Now everyone knows his ‘story’ and I really don’t believe they were invited over at that time.
My sympathies go out to all the families involved with this incident. It is tragic, heartbreaking and life altering. This is not the venue, nor the time for hateful posts and statements. I can assure you that the events of what happened on Sunday morning will change the lives of these families forever. They will never be the same and will reflect for a lifetime on that morning. Enough said.
It is not fair to disparage the families of those involved! Like all of us, there may be some bad seeds in the family but that is certainly not representative of the family as a whole. I grew up in the area and I can tell you that for the most part they are a fine family!
Also to question the parenting skills of the parents of those involved is also unfair. Regardless of the foundation a parent lays, kids do have free will and some will take a path that their parents don’t approve of. It’s not the fault of the parents. We all have members of our family that we are not particuarly proud of, but as the old saying goes, you don’t get to pick your family.
I know the family and it is not disparaging, it is the truth. They encourage violence, they went there to start trouble and they got it.
