MACHIAS, Maine — Machias police are investigating a one-vehicle accident on Route 1 that required the driver, Leah Roberts, 20, of Machias to be airlifted to the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where she is being treated for her injuries.

Machias Police Chief Grady Dwelley said Tuesday that Roberts was westbound in a 2007 Chevrolet when her vehicle left the roadway at 12:45 a.m. Sunday near the Machias Valley Airport and struck a utility pole.

Dwelley said the accident remains under investigation but that driver distraction and alcohol may have been factors.

  1. When will people learn that texting and/or drinking while driving just don’t mix??? I do hope she recovers completely and I also hope others learn from her mistakes.

    1. Yep. You rarely read about sober people with 2 eyes on the road and 2 hands on the wheel running off the road, or running into anyone, or crossing the center line. There surely must be something to paying attention when you’re driving.

  2. maybe she did make some judgemental mistakes but ragging on those mistakes on a comment post underneath an article that doesn’t even describe the extent of her injuries is ignorant and rediculous. this girl now is going to have to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair because of the choices she made. she nor her family needs people that they don’t even know on here making comments about the bad choices that she made. get over it and move on to the next article. thank you and have a good day.
