BREWER – Frederick E. Olsen Sr., 84, husband of Virginia (Crawford) Olsen, passed away Monday, March 12, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 9, 1928, in Bangor, the son of Charles and Georgia (Haskell) Olsen.
Fred graduated from Bangor High School in 1945, and served in the Army during World War II, the Air Force, the Air National Guard and the Naval Reserve. He worked for the American Red Cross and Husson College. He was a member and past commander of Isaac E. Clewley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4917, Brewer, and was also past district commander and served as a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop No. 15 for 20 years.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 62 years of Brewer, are two sons, Michael of Bangor and Jeffrey and his wife, Lesa, of Stratham, N.H.; nine grandchildren, Dodi Olsen of Monroe, Michael Olsen of Pearisburg, Va., Frederick Olsen III and Jeffrey Olsen of Alexander, Daniel Olsen and Tonya Olsen of Corpus Christi, Texas, Max Olsen of Bakersfield, Calif., Seth Olsen and Sebastian Olsen of Stratham, N.H.; a stepgranddaughter, Towanna Howard of Radford, Va.; two sisters, Mary Olund and her husband, Trig, of Sioux City, Iowa, and Marion Descharme of Sacramento, Calif.; two brothers, Merritt Olsen and his wife, Joanne, of Perry Hall, Md., and Alden Olsen of Lutz, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Olsen of Lewiston; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Frederick Olsen Jr.; a brother, Charlie Olsen; and a sister, Norma Lombrix; and his dog, Bear.
A graveside service with military honors will be held later in the spring at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
