PARIS, Maine — Gov. Paul LePage says school choice and the adoption of new teacher and principal evaluations are ways to strengthen Maine’s education system.

The Republican met about 250 people Thursday night at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School as part of his 13th Capitol for a Day event.

He also said the state needs to toughen drunken driving and texting-while-driving laws. He suggested automatic loss of license for both.

The Sun Journal reported he said wind power is not the answer to the energy crisis because it’s not yet affordable.

He also defended cutting $4 million in public finds for the Maine Public Broadcasting System, saying it’s more important that money be spent on helping the elderly.

The governor has been holding Capitol for a Day events in a different county each month.

  1. { He also defended cutting $4 million in public finds for the Maine Public Broadcasting System, saying it’s more important that money be spent on helping the elderly.}

       We just doesn’t want to fund Maine Public Broadcasting System because they are exposing the fact that “he” is really throwing the Elderly out on the street!

  2. This voter stands prepared to vote against every single one of the these proposals from the mouth of Mr. LePage (i.e. MIND of Koch/American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC)/Heritage Foundation).

    MPBN is not worth funding. Really? Is he joking?
    LePage wants to cut funding of MPBN to save the elderly. Really?  Yes, he must be joking.
    School choice will strengthen local schools? Really? Quite the opposite, it’ll close em.
    The reason we aren’t getting the results we want from education is because of poor evaluation practices of principals and teachers? Really? It couldn’t have anything to do with “US” not instilling values and high aspirations into the minds of our children!

    The only way any of Paul’s words can make a lick of sense to anybody would be if they are equally as dimwitted as he clearly is, or perhaps simply blind followers of those groups noted above that put every word in his mouth.
