ROCKLAND, Maine — The Rockland Police Department has selected acting Detective Sgt. Christopher Young as Police Officer/Employee of the Year for 2011.

Young was the overwhelming choice of the nominating committee, which consisted of the deputy chief, one supervisor, one officer and one civilian employee.

Young, who started with the department as a patrol officer on Jan. 8, 1996, possessed a strong work ethic and maintained an excellent work record during the past year, the department stated in a news release. His performance serves as an example to other employees and officers, and many of his peers seek out his advice and knowledge, the release stated.

Young was promoted to detective in April 2001, and in January 2008 he was assigned as the acting detective sergeant for the criminal investigations division.

Young also was the 2000 recipient of the Police Officer/Employee of the Year award.

Young is committed to the betterment of the city and to the welfare and safety of residents and the community as a whole, according to the nominating committee. Acting Detective Sgt. Young’s dedication, positive attitude and expertise as an investigator are sought out by other agencies for advice and assistance, the release added.

“Chris has established himself as a leader and is a fine example for all others to follow,” Rockland Police Chief Bruce Boucher said. “I can best describe Chris as hardworking and a consummate team player. He motivates others to exert the effort necessary to attain the organizational goals of the department.”

Young’s “commitment to the department and our community is exemplary and consistently exhibits professionalism and a positive attitude,” the chief said.

  1. Good job Chris! Well deserved, Det. Young is a fine example of  the professional law enforcement officers we have in our midst.

  2. “Young’s commitment to the department and our community is exemplary and consistently exhibits professionalism and a positive attitude, the chief said.”

If he’s so great Chief why have you kept him as only an acting sergeant for the past four years. Sounds to me Chief like it is time you step up to the plate and promote him to just “Detective Sergeant” for the criminal division. Looks to me like he’s earned it!!!
