BLUE HILL – Isabel Williams Davis, 89, died March 17, 2012, at home. She was born March 18, 1922, in Hartford, Conn., the daughter of Isabel Douglas Seelye and Philip Keeney Williams of Glastonbury, Conn.
Isabel graduated from the Oxford School, Hartford, Conn.; Arlington Hall Junior College and Rhode Island School of Design. In 1945 Isabel married Frederick F. Davis Jr. of Massachusetts. They lived in Tolland, Conn., and Middle Haddam, Conn., raising their children before moving to Maine in 1972. Isabel was a former member of First Church of Christ, Glastonbury, Conn., Tolland Federated Church and Middle Haddam Federated Church, also in Connecticut. In Maine she became a member of First Congregational Church of Blue Hill, where she served on several boards, including the Board of Deacons. Working with other church members, Isabel was manager of The Tree of Life Food Pantry and guided its development into a non-profit community organization. She was a member and former trustee of the Jonathan Fisher Memorial and served as a docent at Fisher House for many years. Isabel and Fred were avid sailors, cruising and racing off the New England coast. They were members of Groton Long Point Yacht Club and Goose Island Cruising Club when they lived in Connecticut, and were members of Bucks Harbor Yacht Club, Kollegewidgwok Yacht Club and Mount Desert Sailing Association in Maine. Isabel expressed herself through her watercolor paintings and her poems. She combined new skills with her artistic talent by taking part in painting workshops here and abroad. She taught sketching and watercolor painting in Blue Hill, showed and sold her paintings in state and out-of-state, and shared her poems within the local community. Isabel was a member of Deer Isle Artists Association and a former member of Jekyll Island Arts Association in Georgia.
She is survived by her daughter, Emily and life partner, Catherine Caudle, of Greenville, S.C.; son, Stu of Franklin; five grandchildren; and her niece, Marion Campbell and husband, Dr. William Campbell, of New York City. She was predeceased by her husband in 1981.
