ROCKWOOD – Richard A. Billings, 76, died March 20, 2012, at Charles A. Dean Hospital, Greenville. He was born Feb. 2, 1936, in Madison, son of Merle and Gladys (Smith) Billings.
After serving his country in the U.S. Army, he worked at Merrill Transport, Portland, as a driver. In 1976, he moved to the Rockwood area and worked for Scott Paper Co., retiring in 1992. From 1992 to 2012, he worked at Birches Resort, Rockwood. He was an avid snowmobiler – winter being his favorite season. Dick enjoyed his annual snowmobile trips around the Gaspesie Peninsula.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Ladd) Billings of Rockwood; three sisters and their husbands, Virginia and Donald Aubin of Florida, Lois and Darryel Boulware of Connecticut, and Leatrice and Bill Graham of Colo.; brother, Jerry Stevens and his companion, Linda Stevens of Lisbon; stepson, Loring Strout of Howland; stepdaughter, Kim Thurston of South Paris; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Monday, March 26, at Greenville Chapel of Crosby & Neal, in the Masonic building, Greenville, with Pastor Marilyn Rohdin officiating.
