CORDOVA, Md. – Elaine E. Grant, 70, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Caroline Home for Hospice, Denton, Md. Born Jan. 2, 1942, in Presque Isle, Ms. Grant was the daughter of Norma Elaine Mitchell Brown of Duxbury, Mass., and the late Ralph Tozier Grant Sr.

She attended the University of Maine, going on to start her family in the Buffalo, N.Y., area. After moving to the Annapolis, Md., area in 1984 from Silver Creek, N.Y., Ms. Grant served as director of The Wilson Center, a non-profit organization, teaching English and job gaining skills helping immigrants gain their legal status. Most recently her greatest rewards were in the time spent with her grandchildren and family.

Ms. Grant is survived by three daughters, Christine Dayton of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Norma Tryczenski of Cordova, Md., and Heather Applefeld of Annapolis, Md.; her mother, Norma Grant Brown of Duxbury, Mass.; her brother, Ralph Grant, of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; sister, Deborah Bowen of Duxbury, Mass.; her son-in-law, Tony Applefeld; her nine grandchildren, Alex, Andrew and Weston Dayton, Grant Tryczenski, Becca and Breanna Wolfe and Robbie, Taylor and Hayven Applefeld.
