BANGOR – Gloria June McLellan, 88, wife of the late John B. McLellan, and the only child of John and Sophie (Arsenault) Kennedy, died March 23, 2012, after a sudden illness. Gloria was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Bangor.

Growing up in Bangor she graduated from John Bapst High School, attended Maine School of Commerce and then went on to graduate from Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing. Gloria served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps as a registered nurse in World War II and worked until retirement in nursing at Eastern Maine General Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital and in the office of the late William Shubert, M.D. After retirement Gloria spent many happy winter seasons in Deltona, Fla. She had numerous friends and acquaintances there, including longtime friends, Sonja Bernier and Betty Beade.

Gloria is survived by her three children, Suzan Nelson and her husband, Kenneth Nelson, of Westbrook, Jolene McLellan and husband, Jonathan L. Weed of Eddington and Michael McLellan and his wife, Beth, of Weare, N.H.; and two granddaughters, Bonnie Lee McLellan and Kristen McLellan Weed. Gloria had no siblings, but had a lifelong unbreakable bond with her first cousin, Mary (Canty) Robinson. They never failed to spend time with each other or talk regularly. Their time together every summer at Hampton Beach, N.H., was especially anticipated and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The large Robinson family occupied a special place in Gloria’s heart. Recently, she had been residing at Winterberry Heights Assisted Living and enjoyed the atmosphere and her fellow residents greatly. Her family thanks Winterberry Heights for providing such a kind and caring environment.

Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 300 State St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bangor. Interment will be afterward in the family lot at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
