KNOX, Maine — A Mexican national who was accused last week of unlawfully sexually touching a teenage girl will be deported, according to police.

Arturo Ramirez, 38, who had been working at a farm in Knox for quite some time, was arrested on Wednesday, March 21, and charged with unlawful sexual touching and domestic violence assault, Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

The daughter of the woman Ramirez was living with disclosed to school officials that he had been sexually inappropriate with her and also had assaulted her, Trafton said.

Investigating officers learned that Ramirez was here illegally, and the Waldo County District Attorney’s Office has decided not to prosecute the sex crime but instead to deport him.

Trafton said that he believed officials from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have already taken custody of Ramirez.

  1. Ya just deport him. He will be back. Toss a mother in jail for 5 years because she let some teenagers drink and just let this REAL child molester go.

    1. Its a catch 22 type of situation. What would you rather do? Get rid of him immediately or pay to for his defense at trial, possible time in jail for a year or so and then deport  him? Its a hard decision to make and I hope that the victim would be consulted with first. Perhaps she was and this is why the case is not be prosecuted and this man is being directly deported.

Of course the fact that he was here illegaly to begin with does not make me feel very confident that he will not be able to make in back into the US somehow.

      1. The court system has to make hard decisions all the time. To bad they can not think with thier Brain not just the law and what is politically correct at the moment.  It makes me loose all respect for the court system.

        1. In this case perhaps the victim was consulted about wanting to go to trial and testify or allow for this guy to be shipped out. I hope that is what happened.

    1. yup just what we need  at 2 million  by the time they are put to death. Were would that money come from  ?

    1. Why not put the blame where it belongs…the mother.

Maybe if the girl’s mother wasn’t shacked up with Senior Ramirez, the girl would not have been put in a situation where she would be faced with unlawful touching and assault.

The mother put her daughter in Harms Way…Maybe she didn’t know Ramirez well enough to give him access to her daughter.

  2. You let Illegal Criminal Aliens into this country what do you expect. When you break 2 or 3 laws whats one more law to break. WOW finally one Deportation even though Maine has thousands of Illegal Criminal Aliens.

  3. What a crock! He should be tried and if convicted jailed for the maximum amount of time and then deported with conditions that he does not return and if he does return, jailed again for violating probation and deported again.  Now just by being deported he will be back in the USA within days.

    1. Deported people are prohibited from entering the US and if they do are subject to jailing again in a Federal Prison. The problem is that the methods of keeping deported people or even first time illegal entry attemptees are not enough to guarantee that no one illegal gets into this country.

    2. Sadly we can’t afford that. Maybe deportation and doing something to ensure we don’t see him in the US again. Why pay $40k a year to keep someone in jail while we go broke and set another free to make the room. At least we have a way to rid the country of this one and it’s far cheaper.

      1. The worst part about just deporting him is he will be right back, probably within an hour or two of being returned to Mexico.  When a US citizen is arrested and convicted he must do the “time”.

  4. Working on a farm long term in Knox  ??
No one ever checked his credentials.
Common practice in many countries , unless exploiting the worker
    is the goal.

Quite a story if the BDN had any reporters they could free up.

  5. Don’t we have enough of this type of criminal, that are legal citizens, without importing any?

  6. Did you guys read a different article than I did? Nowhere in this article does it say the man is here illegally. Neither does the article state what type of “assault” he allegedly committed. It could have been something as mild as an unsolicited touch to an actual rape. Considering the state is not persuing charges I would say that we can probably safely conclude that the former is more likely than the latter. Oh, and being “inappropriate” could have been nothing more than making passes at the girl. While creepy and not acceptible in our culture, this is not the case everywhere.

We do have to remember that he comes from a different culture than we generally have here in the US. In traditional Hispanic culture it is considered OK for men to be sexually agressive even with young teens, age is not a factor. Until only a generation or so ago it was not uncommon even here in S.TX for men to kidnap the object of their affection in order to force the girls family to agree to a marriage so not to shame the family.

While I don’t condone his actions, we should not jump to the worst possible scenarios.

    1.  Investigating officers learned that Ramirez was here illegally, and the

sex crime but instead to deport him.

      Apparently he was here illegally.

    2. Hello….very clearly stated “investigating officers learned that Ramirez was here illegally”…..and, “unlawfully sexually touching a teenage girl”……and, “domestic violence assault”…..I can’t think of a worse “possible scenario” for the girl or her mom……

      1. Ok. its like this, it never said how old this child was, lets all think about how we where in our teenage years. Not saying its right but not saying its wrong if I dont know full details, Lets look at it this way, tell me how many of you would be willing to work between 60-80 hours a week and not complain. Risk your life to come to a place where its not all as it seems, The american dream, is what there after, we as americans dont realize what we have. And we have the right to say they come to our land and take our jobs, Please again, work in there shoe’s. and trust me you would walk away in days, and lets not forget its not the employer thats making them work all the hours its the Mexican’s who want to work for there money. Plus when they work they put 110 percent into there work and get it done, as our american’s are tired and ready to leave after a short days work….So when you sit down to drink your milk, cook with milk, or just plan eat something, its the mexicans who are puting that on your table, cause you as an american believe its nasty work and would rather not do it, and would rather sit around and drink and collect,.

        1.   AW Boo Hoo, There’s a line at the embassy, get in it and come threw the front door. Don’t be breaking into my “House” by entering over the fence.

    3.  KathyS said ” Until only a generation or so ago it was not uncommon even here in S.TX

This is not South Texas a generation ago. This is “here and now” and we as a society do not engage in such activity. To suggest such is pure fantasy.

I would not settle for deportation if I were the victims family. His employer should be arrested for accessory before the fact for employing him to begin with. The Mexican people have done what the British, German, Soviet Union have not been able to do, invade our nation and remain, without firing a shot I might add. If you do not believe me, travel outside of Maine and notice everything is written in English and Spanish, even though the official language of the United States is English. Imagine how the Micmac, Passamaquoddy and Penobscot people feel about this, they had to learn English, if it;s good enough for them, it’s good enough for anyone. The Mexicans have not done this without confederates. Evey person who knowingly hires an illegal alien (I abhor the term undocumented immigrant)should be prosecuted to the full extent the law allows. If the INS and Border patrol did what they were supposed to do beside take snowmobile rides in the country and harass law abiding citizens out of boredom, we would not have such issues. Imagine if INS made mass arrests of the folks who hired these people, and widely publicized such arrests. On the other hand, if this molesting, woman beating criminal was sentenced to prison the State of Mine would have to employ translators, pay costs associated with translating all written material, train correctional staff in cultural competency and so forth.  I agree with other posters, this scum will be back, why not? You can break American law with impunity, you get arrested in Mexico!

    4. yes…everyone else read a different article than you….however everyone is commenting on the above story…
I’m assuming you just read the title of the article.

“We do have to remember that he comes from a different culture than we
generally have here in the US. In traditional Hispanic culture it is
considered OK for men to be sexually agressive even with young teens,
      age is not a factor.”

-Are you saying that it is not a crime….to basically rape young teens??

      1. I disagree with that poster as much as you do. I live in South America and can assure you that while there is a certain machismo present it is not allright to rape adult woman and especially not young girls or boys. That type of thing is frowned upon here very harshly and in Argentina you better hope the police get you first as you will likely be lynched.

    5. The   culture that is accepted here is to protect the kids.  He chooses to be here he should accept the punishment we have. Ya in some middle east countries its OK to rape 10 year olds .  The system we have here is far from perfect.  Some things we find totally unexceptable. I guess I would never take my kids to Mexico. Thanks for the info but it is no defense.

      1.  Our Pres. has no problem sending his young daughter to Mexico , the country a previous poster mentioned it is “OK” for men to be aggressive with young girls.
I wonder if the poster has kids of their own?
Would that apologist for a perverted society(mexico)care to have their child
subjected to ” attentions ” such as these ?
          I hope not !!

        1. I tend to have a more world view than some people. I have values different views than most people. I read the whole article.  In some countries I guess it is not a crime. I would in no way condone such a thing. I think that if most people were raise in such a culture they would or it would not be allowed .  I Tend to always question authority . Guess if I lived in Mexico and was raised in such a culture I would be one of the first people to disappear . I have my own values of what I think is right and wrong is has nothing to do with popular opinion. This is just pain wrong no matter what culture you live in. Knowing this about Mexico and some other middle eastern countries make me have no desire to visit them.   That fact that i do question authority here dose not always make me popular. I am OK with that. At least I am not tarred and feathered for it. I respect other peoples opinions even though I do not always agree . That is what make this and many other western european countries so great. Piece.

    6. If he is here illegaly he is subject to deportation on the basis his illegal status.  If he is here legally he is subject to deportation upon conviction of any crime that carries a penalty of one or more years imprisonment, even if his actual sentence is less.

  7. Gotta wonder about “mom” here…

Ladies, check out your boyfriends a little bit before subjecting your minor children to them.

  8. The concern seems to be for me that he will continue this behavior only with Hispanic children.

  9. I just read a article about illegals that are arrested in Los Angeles. They don’t impound their cars anymore because of the burden it puts on them. Is this a great country or what?

  10. Dan Adams Fox from Brewer was also charged with sexual assault last week. When he was watching his girlfriends little sister while she worked on Saint Paddys day, he gave her sleeping pills when she asked for aspirin.  Why isn’t he being deported!

  11. WHAT ????? This man commits a crime, a crime against a child who is still in school, and we are not doing any thing to him? Are you serious? He will be back in this country before this child has her first mental health visit to deal with this scumbag!  NO, NOi, NO, you send him to jail, and when he is done with that, then you toss him out!  Man, this is as stupid and lame as any thing I have ever come across. What a mess!
