PORTLAND, Ore. – Douglas Gilmore Miller, proud father and devoted husband, died Thursday, March 22, 2012, of neuroendocrine cancer of the pancreas. He was born June 8, 1958, to Alan and Betty Jane Miller.

Doug grew up in rural Connecticut with his three older brothers. Doug attended Rippowam Cisqua School, Bedford, N.Y., and graduated from King School, Stamford, Conn., in 1977. While growing up in Stamford, Conn., Doug spent his spare time as a volunteer firefighter at Stamford Firehouse, and pursued his passion for photography and soccer. He summered at his family’s Maine lakeside cabin, where he enjoyed fishing and exploring the outdoors. In 1981, Doug graduated with majors in history and sociology from the University of Michigan. Doug attended law school at Tulane University and earned a master’s degree in taxation from New York University in 1986. Doug met his future wife, Alison Paul, while at Tulane, and they were married in April 1987, in Baton Rouge, La. Doug and Alison lived briefly in Nashville, Tenn., where he practiced law until he obtained a clerkship at the U.S. Tax Court under Judge William Fay. In 1989, the two moved to Portland, Ore., where Doug practiced estate planning and tax law. Doug served six years on the board of trustees of the French American International School, where his two children, Braden and Madeline attended. Doug wholeheartedly contributed to the organizations he supported, such as annually donating 1,000 bulbs as an auction item for the French American School. Doug was passionate about gardening, and loved sharing the fruits of his favorite pastime with the community and his family. Doug was a major fan of the Portland Beavers – attending games in front row seats with his kids – and was a dedicated fan of the NY Yankees. He will be remembered for his caring nature, friendliness to all and lighthearted sense of humor.

Doug is survived by his wife; two children; mother, BJ Miller of Blue Hill; brothers, Peter of Stamford, Conn., and Chris of Pound Ridge, N.Y.; numerous nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his brother, Stephen.

A celebration of life will be held June 8 at a time and location to be announced. Arrangements made by Crown Memorial Center, Tualatin, Ore.
